No. 2788 R E S O L U T I O N WHEREAS, The accomplished life of Dr. Ernie Joe Chaney has inspired all who are privileged to know him; and WHEREAS, Born to Elbert and Louise Johnson on December 27, 1927, in Pittsburg, Kansas, he was later adopted by Tom Chaney; he went on to join the United States Navy in 1945 and was the valedictorian of the Pittsburg, Kansas, High School Class of 1947; he later attended Wichita State University, and he married the former Margie Lee Hall on August 25, 1952; the couple shared the joy of welcoming three children, Mitchell, James, and Stuart, and in 1956, he graduated with honors from the University of Kansas School of Medicine; and WHEREAS, After completing a family medicine internship in Tacoma, Washington, Dr. Chaney established a private practice in Belleville, Kansas, which he operated from 1957 to 1983; in addition, he volunteered his services on mission trips to Guatemala and Honduras, and he served as president of both the American Association of Family Practice and the Kansas Association of Family Practice; from 1983 through 1998, Dr. Chaney took on the role of educator, becoming an associate professor in the Department of Family and Community Medicine at the Wichita campus of the KU School of Medicine and also directing the institution's Family Practice Residency Program, and he authored numerous academic articles; and WHEREAS, On his retirement in 1998, Dr. Chaney began spending time in the Brownsville area to be closer to his treasured family, which has grown to include four grandchildren; in 2007, he became a resident of the Lone Star State, settling in Rancho Viejo, and he enjoys playing golf, reading, and following KU sports; and WHEREAS, Through the years, Dr. Ernie Joe Chaney has enhanced the lives of others with his dedication and generosity, and he may indeed reflect with great pride on his notable achievements and contributions; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas Legislature hereby honor Dr. Ernie Joe Chaney on his outstanding career in medicine and extend to him sincere best wishes for continued happiness; and, be it further RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be prepared for Dr. Chaney as an expression of high regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
