| 5 | 5 | | WHEREAS, The accomplished life of Dr. Ernie Joe Chaney has |
|---|
| 6 | 6 | | inspired all who are privileged to know him; and |
|---|
| 7 | 7 | | WHEREAS, Born to Elbert and Louise Johnson on December 27, |
|---|
| 8 | 8 | | 1927, in Pittsburg, Kansas, he was later adopted by Tom Chaney; he |
|---|
| 9 | 9 | | went on to join the United States Navy in 1945 and was the |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | valedictorian of the Pittsburg, Kansas, High School Class of 1947; |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | he later attended Wichita State University, and he married the |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | former Margie Lee Hall on August 25, 1952; the couple shared the joy |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | of welcoming three children, Mitchell, James, and Stuart, and in |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | 1956, he graduated with honors from the University of Kansas School |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | of Medicine; and |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | WHEREAS, After completing a family medicine internship in |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | Tacoma, Washington, Dr. Chaney established a private practice in |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | Belleville, Kansas, which he operated from 1957 to 1983; in |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | addition, he volunteered his services on mission trips to Guatemala |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | and Honduras, and he served as president of both the American |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | Association of Family Practice and the Kansas Association of Family |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | Practice; from 1983 through 1998, Dr. Chaney took on the role of |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | educator, becoming an associate professor in the Department of |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | Family and Community Medicine at the Wichita campus of the KU School |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | of Medicine and also directing the institution's Family Practice |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | Residency Program, and he authored numerous academic articles; and |
|---|
| 27 | 27 | | WHEREAS, On his retirement in 1998, Dr. Chaney began spending |
|---|
| 28 | 28 | | time in the Brownsville area to be closer to his treasured family, |
|---|
| 29 | 29 | | which has grown to include four grandchildren; in 2007, he became a |
|---|
| 30 | 30 | | resident of the Lone Star State, settling in Rancho Viejo, and he |
|---|
| 31 | 31 | | enjoys playing golf, reading, and following KU sports; and |
|---|
| 32 | 32 | | WHEREAS, Through the years, Dr. Ernie Joe Chaney has enhanced |
|---|
| 33 | 33 | | the lives of others with his dedication and generosity, and he may |
|---|
| 34 | 34 | | indeed reflect with great pride on his notable achievements and |
|---|
| 35 | 35 | | contributions; now, therefore, be it |
|---|
| 36 | 36 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas |
|---|
| 37 | 37 | | Legislature hereby honor Dr. Ernie Joe Chaney on his outstanding |
|---|
| 38 | 38 | | career in medicine and extend to him sincere best wishes for |
|---|
| 39 | 39 | | continued happiness; and, be it further |
|---|
| 40 | 40 | | RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |

| 41 | 41 | | prepared for Dr. Chaney as an expression of high regard by the Texas |
