| 5 | 5 | | WHEREAS, The Honorable Vanessa Cardwell concluded her |
|---|
| 6 | 6 | | service as a member of the Fort Stockton City Council in 2009 after |
|---|
| 7 | 7 | | a distinguished term of service to her fellow citizens; and |
|---|
| 8 | 8 | | WHEREAS, Ms. Cardwell's efforts helped bring about many |
|---|
| 9 | 9 | | positive developments for the city; she was particularly active in |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | areas of finance, working to establish a seven-year capital |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | improvement plan and a new financial team and improving the general |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | fund balance; in addition, she focused on many personnel issues and |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | on realizing improvements at the wastewater treatment plant, and |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | she oversaw a number of vital planning initiatives, to name but a |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | few of her accomplishments; and |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | WHEREAS, A leader in the professional world as well as in |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | government, Ms. Cardwell has spent 22 years with Walmart, including |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | 16 years in management, and she played an instrumental role in |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | helping her store win recognition as the company's 2005 Hometown |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | Store of the Year; and |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | WHEREAS, Ms. Cardwell is prominent in a number of civic |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | groups and served as president of the Fort Stockton Chamber of |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | Commerce in 2006 and as a member of the board of the Fort Stockton |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | Convention and Visitors Bureau in 2007; and |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | WHEREAS, Devoting her time and talents to benefit her city, |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | Vanessa Cardwell has proven herself a devoted public servant and an |
|---|
| 27 | 27 | | involved citizen, and she may take justifiable pride in her record |
|---|
| 28 | 28 | | of achievement during her tenure in city government; now, |
|---|
| 29 | 29 | | therefore, be it |
|---|
| 30 | 30 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas |
|---|
| 31 | 31 | | Legislature hereby honor Vanessa Cardwell for her service as a |
|---|
| 32 | 32 | | member of the Fort Stockton City Council and extend to her sincere |
|---|
| 33 | 33 | | best wishes for continued success in all of her endeavors; and, be |
