44 R E S O L U T I O N
55 WHEREAS, The Honorable David Cobos of Midland County has been
66 named Judge of the Year for 2009 by the West Texas Justices of the
77 Peace and Constables Association; and
88 WHEREAS, This dedicated public servant has been justice of
99 the peace for Precinct 2 since 1997, and over the course of his
1010 tenure he has worked diligently to curb truancy in local schools; he
1111 has also served as legislative committee chair of the West Texas
1212 Justices of the Peace and Constables Association; and
1313 WHEREAS, A native of the El Paso area, Judge Cobos attended
1414 Hardin-Simmons University and joined the Midland County Sheriff's
1515 Office in 1979; he helped to found the Midland Crime Stoppers
1616 organization and served as the director of Texas Crime Stoppers in
1717 Austin during the administrations of Governors Bill Clements, Ann
1818 Richards, and George W. Bush; and
1919 WHEREAS, Judge Cobos embodies the highest ideals of his
2020 office, and through his efforts in behalf of his fellow Texans, he
2121 has rendered immeasurable service to his community; now, therefore,
2222 be it
2323 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas
2424 Legislature hereby congratulate Midland County justice of the peace
2525 David Cobos on his selection as the 2009 Judge of the Year by the
2626 West Texas Justices of the Peace and Constables Association and
2727 extend to him sincere best wishes for continued success with his
2828 important work; and, be it further
2929 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
3030 prepared for Judge Cobos as an expression of high regard by the
3131 Texas House of Representatives.
