44 R E S O L U T I O N
55 WHEREAS, Members of Sweet Home Baptist Church in Fort Worth
66 gathered on March 29, 2009, to pay tribute to their pastor, the
77 Reverend James C. Brown, for his 14 years of service to the
88 congregation; and
99 WHEREAS, A native of Abilene, Reverend Brown was born to
1010 Grant and Faye Brown; he attended Macedonia Baptist Church under
1111 the leadership of the late Reverend T. G. Oliphant and graduated
1212 from Abilene High School; and
1313 WHEREAS, He earned his bachelor's degree from Texas Christian
1414 University and his master's degree from Amberton University; he is
1515 also a licensed funeral director; and
1616 WHEREAS, In November 1993, Reverend Brown answered the call
1717 to preach under the leadership of the founding pastor of Sweet Home
1818 Baptist Church, the Reverend Roy W. Bivens, Sr.; in March 1995,
1919 Reverend Brown was installed as the second pastor in the history of
2020 the church; and
2121 WHEREAS, Pastor Brown has been responsible for the overall
2222 operation of the church, preaching, teaching, leading the
2323 congregation in its spiritual growth and development, and assisting
2424 members with spiritual and personal concerns; he also represents
2525 the church at all levels of convention and association involvement
2626 and established the Abundant Life Ministry to help the less
2727 fortunate; and
2828 WHEREAS, In addition to his years of service at Sweet Home
2929 Baptist, Pastor Brown is the moderator of the Progressive West
3030 Texas Baptist District Association and currently serves as
3131 financial secretary of the minister's conference of the National
3232 Missionary Baptist Convention of America; and
3333 WHEREAS, Pastor Brown has been blessed with a loving wife,
3434 the former Jarilyn S. Scott, two children, Carey and Jessica, and
3535 two grandchildren, Devyn Michele and Deion James; and
3636 WHEREAS, Reverend Brown has led Sweet Home Baptist Church
3737 with compassion, wisdom, and insight, and he has earned the lasting
3838 respect and admiration of his congregants; now, therefore, be it
3939 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas
4040 Legislature hereby congratulate the Reverend James C. Brown on his
4141 14th pastoral anniversary with Sweet Home Baptist Church and extend
4242 to him sincere best wishes for the future; and, be it further
4343 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
4444 prepared for Reverend Brown as an expression of high regard by the
4545 Texas House of Representatives.
