| 5 | 5 | | WHEREAS, Members of Sweet Home Baptist Church in Fort Worth |

| 6 | 6 | | gathered on March 29, 2009, to pay tribute to their pastor, the |
|---|
| 7 | 7 | | Reverend James C. Brown, for his 14 years of service to the |
|---|
| 8 | 8 | | congregation; and |
|---|
| 9 | 9 | | WHEREAS, A native of Abilene, Reverend Brown was born to |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | Grant and Faye Brown; he attended Macedonia Baptist Church under |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | the leadership of the late Reverend T. G. Oliphant and graduated |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | from Abilene High School; and |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | WHEREAS, He earned his bachelor's degree from Texas Christian |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | University and his master's degree from Amberton University; he is |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | also a licensed funeral director; and |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | WHEREAS, In November 1993, Reverend Brown answered the call |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | to preach under the leadership of the founding pastor of Sweet Home |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | Baptist Church, the Reverend Roy W. Bivens, Sr.; in March 1995, |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | Reverend Brown was installed as the second pastor in the history of |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | the church; and |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | WHEREAS, Pastor Brown has been responsible for the overall |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | operation of the church, preaching, teaching, leading the |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | congregation in its spiritual growth and development, and assisting |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | members with spiritual and personal concerns; he also represents |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | the church at all levels of convention and association involvement |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | and established the Abundant Life Ministry to help the less |
|---|
| 27 | 27 | | fortunate; and |
|---|
| 28 | 28 | | WHEREAS, In addition to his years of service at Sweet Home |
|---|
| 29 | 29 | | Baptist, Pastor Brown is the moderator of the Progressive West |
|---|
| 30 | 30 | | Texas Baptist District Association and currently serves as |
|---|
| 31 | 31 | | financial secretary of the minister's conference of the National |
|---|
| 32 | 32 | | Missionary Baptist Convention of America; and |
|---|
| 33 | 33 | | WHEREAS, Pastor Brown has been blessed with a loving wife, |
|---|
| 34 | 34 | | the former Jarilyn S. Scott, two children, Carey and Jessica, and |
|---|
| 35 | 35 | | two grandchildren, Devyn Michele and Deion James; and |
|---|
| 36 | 36 | | WHEREAS, Reverend Brown has led Sweet Home Baptist Church |
|---|
| 37 | 37 | | with compassion, wisdom, and insight, and he has earned the lasting |
|---|
| 38 | 38 | | respect and admiration of his congregants; now, therefore, be it |
|---|
| 39 | 39 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas |
|---|
| 40 | 40 | | Legislature hereby congratulate the Reverend James C. Brown on his |
|---|
| 41 | 41 | | 14th pastoral anniversary with Sweet Home Baptist Church and extend |
|---|
| 42 | 42 | | to him sincere best wishes for the future; and, be it further |
|---|
| 43 | 43 | | RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |

| 44 | 44 | | prepared for Reverend Brown as an expression of high regard by the |
