5 | 5 | | WHEREAS, Rabbi Gidon Moskovitz of Meyerland Minyan in Houston |

6 | 6 | | and his wife, Rebbitzen Malka Moskovitz, work together to |

7 | 7 | | faithfully serve the spiritual needs of their community; and |

8 | 8 | | WHEREAS, A Massachusetts native, Rabbi Moskovitz has a strong |

9 | 9 | | secular and religious educational background; in addition to |

10 | 10 | | pursuing traditional yeshiva studies, he attended Baruch College of |
---|
11 | 11 | | the City University of New York, graduating as salutatorian in 1999 |
---|
12 | 12 | | with a bachelor's degree in finance; after working as a supervisor |
---|
13 | 13 | | of asset administration for a New York investment firm, he moved |
---|
14 | 14 | | with his family to Jerusalem, where he studied Torah for four years |
---|
15 | 15 | | and wrote a number of works on Jewish law and values; and |
---|
16 | 16 | | WHEREAS, Rebbitzen Moskovitz graduated from Thomas Edison |

17 | 17 | | State College in New Jersey and continued her Jewish education at |
---|
18 | 18 | | Bnos Rochel Teachers' Seminary of Jerusalem and the Moreshet |
---|
19 | 19 | | Institute, a Jewish outreach program of study for women; she worked |
---|
20 | 20 | | for several outreach organizations in Israel and was the founder |
---|
21 | 21 | | and director of the Ner Le'elef resource center, a library serving |
---|
22 | 22 | | outreach workers around the world; moreover, she assisted in adult |
---|
23 | 23 | | education classes, primarily focusing on the subject of marriage; |
---|

25 | 25 | | WHEREAS, This dedicated couple joined Meyerland Minyan in |
---|
26 | 26 | | 2005, just four years after it was founded, to serve the many |
---|
27 | 27 | | Orthodox Jews in the Meyerland area who wished to walk to services |
---|
28 | 28 | | on Shabbat; together, the Moskovitzes have fostered a warm and |
---|
29 | 29 | | welcoming atmosphere for Jews of all levels of religious observance |
---|
30 | 30 | | and knowledge, and the synagogue's membership, which numbered 25 |
---|
31 | 31 | | families when they arrived, has quadrupled; the frequency of |
---|
32 | 32 | | services has increased to meet demand, and a broad range of |
---|
33 | 33 | | educational programming is offered; and |
---|
34 | 34 | | WHEREAS, Rabbi and Rebbitzen Moskovitz have demonstrated a |
---|
35 | 35 | | wholehearted commitment to their congregation and to the wider |
---|
36 | 36 | | Jewish community, and their faith and many good works have been a |
---|
37 | 37 | | source of profound inspiration to all who know them; now, |

39 | 39 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas |

40 | 40 | | Legislature hereby honor Rabbi Gidon Moskovitz and Rebbitzen Malka |
