55 WHEREAS, Rabbi Gidon Moskovitz of Meyerland Minyan in Houston
66 and his wife, Rebbitzen Malka Moskovitz, work together to
77 faithfully serve the spiritual needs of their community; and
88 WHEREAS, A Massachusetts native, Rabbi Moskovitz has a strong
99 secular and religious educational background; in addition to
1010 pursuing traditional yeshiva studies, he attended Baruch College of
1111 the City University of New York, graduating as salutatorian in 1999
1212 with a bachelor's degree in finance; after working as a supervisor
1313 of asset administration for a New York investment firm, he moved
1414 with his family to Jerusalem, where he studied Torah for four years
1515 and wrote a number of works on Jewish law and values; and
1616 WHEREAS, Rebbitzen Moskovitz graduated from Thomas Edison
1717 State College in New Jersey and continued her Jewish education at
1818 Bnos Rochel Teachers' Seminary of Jerusalem and the Moreshet
1919 Institute, a Jewish outreach program of study for women; she worked
2020 for several outreach organizations in Israel and was the founder
2121 and director of the Ner Le'elef resource center, a library serving
2222 outreach workers around the world; moreover, she assisted in adult
2323 education classes, primarily focusing on the subject of marriage;
2424 and
2525 WHEREAS, This dedicated couple joined Meyerland Minyan in
2626 2005, just four years after it was founded, to serve the many
2727 Orthodox Jews in the Meyerland area who wished to walk to services
2828 on Shabbat; together, the Moskovitzes have fostered a warm and
2929 welcoming atmosphere for Jews of all levels of religious observance
3030 and knowledge, and the synagogue's membership, which numbered 25
3131 families when they arrived, has quadrupled; the frequency of
3232 services has increased to meet demand, and a broad range of
3333 educational programming is offered; and
3434 WHEREAS, Rabbi and Rebbitzen Moskovitz have demonstrated a
3535 wholehearted commitment to their congregation and to the wider
3636 Jewish community, and their faith and many good works have been a
3737 source of profound inspiration to all who know them; now,
3838 therefore, be it
3939 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas
4040 Legislature hereby honor Rabbi Gidon Moskovitz and Rebbitzen Malka
4141 Moskovitz for their service to the community and extend to them
4242 sincere best wishes for the future; and, be it further
4343 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
4444 prepared for the rabbi and rebbitzen as an expression of high regard
4545 by the Texas House of Representatives.
