| 5 | 5 | | WHEREAS, Words cannot adequately express the sorrow felt at |

| 6 | 6 | | the untimely loss of Maura Cassiana de Souza of Spring, who passed |

| 7 | 7 | | away on May 19, 2009, at the age of 22; and |
|---|
| 8 | 8 | | WHEREAS, The beloved daughter of Joel and Erin de Souza, Ms. |
|---|
| 9 | 9 | | de Souza was a talented young opera singer who was studying music at |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | Sam Houston State University, and she graduated only days before |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | she died; wearing her cap and gown and surrounded by family and |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | friends, she received her bachelor's degree from university |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | officials in a memorable ceremony in her hospital room; and |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | WHEREAS, Although it is immeasurably painful to say goodbye |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | to one so young and full of promise, it is fitting to remember that |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | while Maura de Souza's time here was all too brief, her life |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | profoundly affected those around her, and her memory will continue |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | to inspire the countless individuals whose lives she touched; now, |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | therefore, be it |

| 20 | 20 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas |

| 21 | 21 | | Legislature hereby pay tribute to the life of Maura Cassiana de |

| 22 | 22 | | Souza and extend sincere condolences to the members of her family: |

| 23 | 23 | | to her parents, Joel and Erin de Souza; to her sisters, Danielle and |

| 24 | 24 | | Lydia de Souza; and to her other relatives and many friends; and, be |
