| 5 | 5 | | WHEREAS, Judy A. Hill of Aledo High School is the recipient of |
|---|
| 6 | 6 | | the 2009 Marva Collins Teaching Excellence Award presented by the |
|---|
| 7 | 7 | | Reilly Family Foundation; and |
|---|
| 8 | 8 | | WHEREAS, Born in a small town in West Texas in 1953, the |
|---|
| 9 | 9 | | former Judy Ann Wilburn was an avid reader in her youth; she |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | graduated with honors from Abilene High School in 1971 and went on |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | to work for the U.S. Social Security Administration; after a decade |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | there, she realized that something was missing in her life, and she |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | decided to pursue her longtime dream of a career as a teacher; she |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | quit her job, returned to school, and in 1987 graduated from Texas |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | Christian University with a bachelor's degree summa cum laude in |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | education; she taught in the Azle and Birdville school districts, |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | and after earning her master's degree in English from the |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | University of North Texas in 1996, served as an academic |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | coordinator at a high school in Fort Worth and as an instructor at |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | Tarrant County College; and |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | WHEREAS, Since 2006, Ms. Hill has taught advanced placement |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | English at Aledo High School, and she is the chair of the English |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | department; in addition, she has instituted SAT and PSAT |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | preparatory courses and mentored new teachers at the school, and |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | she is planning to serve on the Aledo ISD Strategic Planning |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | Committee; Ms. Hill has further contributed to such organizations |
|---|
| 27 | 27 | | as the United Educators Association of Texas and the National |
|---|
| 28 | 28 | | Council of Teachers of English; and |
|---|
| 29 | 29 | | WHEREAS, In all of her endeavors, she benefits from the love |
|---|
| 30 | 30 | | and support of her husband, Jack Hill, and the couple take great |
|---|
| 31 | 31 | | pride in their daughter, Christi Hill-Kothmann; Ms. Hill also |
|---|
| 32 | 32 | | enjoys playing piano and writing, and she maintains her lifelong |
|---|
| 33 | 33 | | enthusiasm for reading; and |
|---|
| 34 | 34 | | WHEREAS, This esteemed Texan has demonstrated the passion, |
|---|
| 35 | 35 | | determination, and commitment that are the hallmarks of our best |
|---|
| 36 | 36 | | teachers, and she is indeed an exemplary role model for her |
|---|
| 37 | 37 | | colleagues and students alike; now, therefore, be it |
|---|
| 38 | 38 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas |
|---|
| 39 | 39 | | Legislature hereby congratulate Judy A. Hill on her receipt of the |
|---|
| 40 | 40 | | 2009 Marva Collins Teaching Excellence Award and extend to her |
|---|
| 41 | 41 | | sincere best wishes for continued success and happiness; and, be it |
