R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, Words cannot adequately express the sorrow felt by
his family and friends at the loss of U.S. Marine Corps Staff
Sergeant Archie A. Taylor of Tomball, who died in Afghanistan on
March 14, 2009, at the age of 37; and
WHEREAS, Assigned to the 2nd Intelligence Battalion, 2nd
Marine Expeditionary Force Headquarters Group, 2nd Marine
Expeditionary Force, out of Camp Lejeune, North Carolina, Sergeant
Taylor died while serving his country in Kabul; and
WHEREAS, Born in Montgomery County on November 5, 1971,
Archie Taylor was a 20-year veteran of the U.S. armed forces; he
enlisted in the U.S. Army in 1989 and served until 1995, and he
continued his service with the Army National Guard until 1997; and
WHEREAS, In 2001, Sergeant Taylor joined the U.S. Marine
Corps and served as a counterintelligence specialist; after two
tours of duty in Iraq, he was deployed to Afghanistan in January
2009; and
WHEREAS, During his long and distinguished military career,
Sergeant Taylor earned many decorations and commendations,
including the Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal, the Marine
Corps Good Conduct Medal, the Combat Action Ribbon, the Army
Achievement, Commendation, and Good Conduct Medals, the Iraq
Campaign Medal, and the National Defense Service Medal, to name but
a few; and
WHEREAS, Our state and nation are fortunate to have men and
women whose love for their country inspires them to take up military
service, but the tragic death of this brave and dedicated marine is
a sobering reminder of the cost of war; Sergeant Taylor devoted more
than half of his life to defending his nation, and those who knew
and loved him will forever carry him close in their hearts; now,
therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas
Legislature hereby pay tribute to the life of Staff Sergeant Archie
A. Taylor and extend sincere condolences to his loved ones; and, be
it further
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
prepared for his family and that when the Texas House of
Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Archie
Taylor.
