5	5	WHEREAS, Words cannot adequately express the sorrow felt by
6	6	his family and friends at the loss of U.S. Marine Corps Staff
7	7	Sergeant Archie A. Taylor of Tomball, who died in Afghanistan on
8	8	March 14, 2009, at the age of 37; and
9	9	WHEREAS, Assigned to the 2nd Intelligence Battalion, 2nd
10	10	Marine Expeditionary Force Headquarters Group, 2nd Marine
11	11	Expeditionary Force, out of Camp Lejeune, North Carolina, Sergeant
12	12	Taylor died while serving his country in Kabul; and
13	13	WHEREAS, Born in Montgomery County on November 5, 1971,
14	14	Archie Taylor was a 20-year veteran of the U.S. armed forces; he
15	15	enlisted in the U.S. Army in 1989 and served until 1995, and he
16	16	continued his service with the Army National Guard until 1997; and
17	17	WHEREAS, In 2001, Sergeant Taylor joined the U.S. Marine
18	18	Corps and served as a counterintelligence specialist; after two
19	19	tours of duty in Iraq, he was deployed to Afghanistan in January
20	20	2009; and
21	21	WHEREAS, During his long and distinguished military career,
22	22	Sergeant Taylor earned many decorations and commendations,
23	23	including the Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal, the Marine
24	24	Corps Good Conduct Medal, the Combat Action Ribbon, the Army
25	25	Achievement, Commendation, and Good Conduct Medals, the Iraq
26	26	Campaign Medal, and the National Defense Service Medal, to name but
27	27	a few; and
28	28	WHEREAS, Our state and nation are fortunate to have men and
29	29	women whose love for their country inspires them to take up military
30	30	service, but the tragic death of this brave and dedicated marine is
31	31	a sobering reminder of the cost of war; Sergeant Taylor devoted more
32	32	than half of his life to defending his nation, and those who knew
33	33	and loved him will forever carry him close in their hearts; now,
34	34	therefore, be it
35	35	RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas
36	36	Legislature hereby pay tribute to the life of Staff Sergeant Archie
37	37	A. Taylor and extend sincere condolences to his loved ones; and, be
38	38	it further
39	39	RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
40	40	prepared for his family and that when the Texas House of
41	41	Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Archie
42	42	Taylor.
