H.R. No. 284 R E S O L U T I O N WHEREAS, With the death of Lane Alton Zivley on January 18, 2009, at the age of 69, the State of Texas lost a dedicated professional who helped ensure a brighter future for many Texas workers; and WHEREAS, Born in Temple on January 15, 1940, Mr. Zivley was the son of Rebecca and Lamar Zivley; he played football at The University of Texas and later attended Sam Houston State University, where he was a member of Kappa Alpha Fraternity; and WHEREAS, Mr. Zivley gained an early knowledge of Texas government from his father, who represented Bell County in the state legislature and helped create the Teacher Retirement System of Texas; Lane Zivley would draw on that background when he entered state service, working for the state comptroller's office during a career that spanned 15 years; and WHEREAS, In 1974, he became an advocate for his fellow state employees when he was hired by the Texas Public Employees Association; appointed executive director several years later, he fought for wage increases, protections for whistle-blowers, and improved benefits, and his dedication and diligence benefited countless public servants; and WHEREAS, A man of many interests, Mr. Zivley loved politics, ardently supported the NRA, and enjoyed hunting and cheering on his favorite sports teams, including the Longhorns, the Yankees, and the Round Rock Express; and WHEREAS, In all of his endeavors, he was blessed with the love and support of his wife of more than 40 years, June, as well as four children, Benette, Rebecca, Debra, and Mona, eight grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren; and WHEREAS, Although Lane Zivley's wide circle of friends and admirers are saddened by his death, they will surely take comfort in remembering his humor, compassion, and generosity, and he will forever hold a special place in their hearts; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas Legislature hereby pay tribute to the life of Lane Alton Zivley and extend deepest sympathy to the members of his family: to his wife, June; to his children, Benette Lamar Zivley and his wife, Linda, Rebecca Grace Schrowang and her husband, Jeremy, Debra Denise Emery, and Mona Marie Fitch; to his grandchildren, Zachary, Zoe, Caitlyn, Russell, Justin, Chance, Alexis, and Lacey; to his great-grandchildren, Brooklynd and Raleigh; and to his other relatives and many friends; and, be it further RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be prepared for his family and that when the Texas House of Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Lane Alton Zivley.
