44 R E S O L U T I O N
55 WHEREAS, With the death of Lane Alton Zivley on January 18,
66 2009, at the age of 69, the State of Texas lost a dedicated
77 professional who helped ensure a brighter future for many Texas
88 workers; and
99 WHEREAS, Born in Temple on January 15, 1940, Mr. Zivley was
1010 the son of Rebecca and Lamar Zivley; he played football at The
1111 University of Texas and later attended Sam Houston State
1212 University, where he was a member of Kappa Alpha Fraternity; and
1313 WHEREAS, Mr. Zivley gained an early knowledge of Texas
1414 government from his father, who represented Bell County in the
1515 state legislature and helped create the Teacher Retirement System
1616 of Texas; Lane Zivley would draw on that background when he entered
1717 state service, working for the state comptroller's office during a
1818 career that spanned 15 years; and
1919 WHEREAS, In 1974, he became an advocate for his fellow state
2020 employees when he was hired by the Texas Public Employees
2121 Association; appointed executive director several years later, he
2222 fought for wage increases, protections for whistle-blowers, and
2323 improved benefits, and his dedication and diligence benefited
2424 countless public servants; and
2525 WHEREAS, A man of many interests, Mr. Zivley loved politics,
2626 ardently supported the NRA, and enjoyed hunting and cheering on his
2727 favorite sports teams, including the Longhorns, the Yankees, and
2828 the Round Rock Express; and
2929 WHEREAS, In all of his endeavors, he was blessed with the love
3030 and support of his wife of more than 40 years, June, as well as four
3131 children, Benette, Rebecca, Debra, and Mona, eight grandchildren,
3232 and two great-grandchildren; and
3333 WHEREAS, Although Lane Zivley's wide circle of friends and
3434 admirers are saddened by his death, they will surely take comfort in
3535 remembering his humor, compassion, and generosity, and he will
3636 forever hold a special place in their hearts; now, therefore, be it
3737 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas
3838 Legislature hereby pay tribute to the life of Lane Alton Zivley and
3939 extend deepest sympathy to the members of his family: to his wife,
4040 June; to his children, Benette Lamar Zivley and his wife, Linda,
4141 Rebecca Grace Schrowang and her husband, Jeremy, Debra Denise
4242 Emery, and Mona Marie Fitch; to his grandchildren, Zachary, Zoe,
4343 Caitlyn, Russell, Justin, Chance, Alexis, and Lacey; to his
4444 great-grandchildren, Brooklynd and Raleigh; and to his other
4545 relatives and many friends; and, be it further
4646 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
4747 prepared for his family and that when the Texas House of
4848 Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Lane Alton
4949 Zivley.
