5 | 5 | | WHEREAS, With the death of Lane Alton Zivley on January 18, |

6 | 6 | | 2009, at the age of 69, the State of Texas lost a dedicated |
---|
7 | 7 | | professional who helped ensure a brighter future for many Texas |
---|
8 | 8 | | workers; and |
---|
9 | 9 | | WHEREAS, Born in Temple on January 15, 1940, Mr. Zivley was |
---|
10 | 10 | | the son of Rebecca and Lamar Zivley; he played football at The |
---|
11 | 11 | | University of Texas and later attended Sam Houston State |
---|
12 | 12 | | University, where he was a member of Kappa Alpha Fraternity; and |
---|
13 | 13 | | WHEREAS, Mr. Zivley gained an early knowledge of Texas |
---|
14 | 14 | | government from his father, who represented Bell County in the |
---|
15 | 15 | | state legislature and helped create the Teacher Retirement System |
---|
16 | 16 | | of Texas; Lane Zivley would draw on that background when he entered |
---|
17 | 17 | | state service, working for the state comptroller's office during a |
---|
18 | 18 | | career that spanned 15 years; and |
---|
19 | 19 | | WHEREAS, In 1974, he became an advocate for his fellow state |
---|
20 | 20 | | employees when he was hired by the Texas Public Employees |
---|
21 | 21 | | Association; appointed executive director several years later, he |
---|
22 | 22 | | fought for wage increases, protections for whistle-blowers, and |
---|
23 | 23 | | improved benefits, and his dedication and diligence benefited |
---|
24 | 24 | | countless public servants; and |
---|
25 | 25 | | WHEREAS, A man of many interests, Mr. Zivley loved politics, |
---|
26 | 26 | | ardently supported the NRA, and enjoyed hunting and cheering on his |
---|
27 | 27 | | favorite sports teams, including the Longhorns, the Yankees, and |
---|
28 | 28 | | the Round Rock Express; and |
---|
29 | 29 | | WHEREAS, In all of his endeavors, he was blessed with the love |
---|
30 | 30 | | and support of his wife of more than 40 years, June, as well as four |
---|
31 | 31 | | children, Benette, Rebecca, Debra, and Mona, eight grandchildren, |
---|
32 | 32 | | and two great-grandchildren; and |
---|
33 | 33 | | WHEREAS, Although Lane Zivley's wide circle of friends and |
---|
34 | 34 | | admirers are saddened by his death, they will surely take comfort in |
---|
35 | 35 | | remembering his humor, compassion, and generosity, and he will |
---|
36 | 36 | | forever hold a special place in their hearts; now, therefore, be it |
---|
37 | 37 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas |
---|
38 | 38 | | Legislature hereby pay tribute to the life of Lane Alton Zivley and |
---|
39 | 39 | | extend deepest sympathy to the members of his family: to his wife, |
---|
40 | 40 | | June; to his children, Benette Lamar Zivley and his wife, Linda, |
---|
41 | 41 | | Rebecca Grace Schrowang and her husband, Jeremy, Debra Denise |
---|
42 | 42 | | Emery, and Mona Marie Fitch; to his grandchildren, Zachary, Zoe, |

43 | 43 | | Caitlyn, Russell, Justin, Chance, Alexis, and Lacey; to his |

44 | 44 | | great-grandchildren, Brooklynd and Raleigh; and to his other |
