55 R E S O L U T I O N
66 WHEREAS, Citizens of Travis County lost an admired community
77 activist with the death of Green Party co-chair William Judson
88 Holloway III on January 8, 2009, at the age of 44; and
99 WHEREAS, Born in Oklahoma City on July 31, 1964, Bill
1010 Holloway was the only son of Judge William Judson Holloway, Jr., and
1111 Helen Hoehn Holloway; he developed a love of the outdoors during
1212 family vacations in the Rocky Mountains and as a camper and
1313 counselor at Cheley Colorado Camps, and he earned his Eagle Scout
1414 badge in 1980; a gifted student as well, he graduated cum laude from
1515 Casady School and went on to attend Bucknell University, where he
1616 was awarded the W. Norwood Lowry Prize for his achievements in
1717 physics; he subsequently earned a master of science degree in
1818 nonlinear physics from The University of Texas at Austin and
1919 pursued studies in meteorology at the University of Oklahoma; and
2020 WHEREAS, Mr. Holloway began his career at National
2121 Instruments and later founded his own Internet consulting firm, but
2222 he is perhaps best remembered for his generous volunteer efforts in
2323 behalf of numerous organizations; he served as Texas director of
2424 the Northern Flyer Alliance, which is dedicated to the
2525 reintroduction of passenger rail, and he was involved in the Green
2626 Party at the local, state, and national levels, serving as co-chair
2727 of the Travis County group; moreover, he was active in the ACLU of
2828 Texas Central Texas Chapter, and he served as a counselor for a rape
2929 crisis hotline; and
3030 WHEREAS, Known for his heartfelt dedication to the causes he
3131 believed in, Bill Holloway strived to make a positive difference in
3232 the world around him, and his myriad contributions will continue to
3333 resonate for years to come; now, therefore, be it
3434 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas
3535 Legislature hereby pay tribute to the life of William Judson
3636 Holloway III and extend sincere sympathy to the members of his
3737 family: to his parents, the Honorable William Judson Holloway, Jr.,
3838 and Helen Hoehn Holloway; to his sister, Gentry Holloway; to his
3939 nephews, Jack and Josh Holloway; and to his other relatives and many
4040 friends; and, be it further
4141 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
4242 prepared for his family and that when the Texas House of
4343 Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Bill
4444 Holloway.
