| 5 | 5 | | WHEREAS, The Valley Building Officials Association in South |

| 6 | 6 | | Texas is celebrating the 50th anniversary of its founding in 2009; |
|---|
| 7 | 7 | | and |
|---|
| 8 | 8 | | WHEREAS, During the 1950s, communities in the Lower Rio |
|---|
| 9 | 9 | | Grande Valley were adopting housing and building codes in order to |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | qualify for state and federal funds; some community members, |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | however, began to question the effectiveness of local code |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | enforcement; and |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | WHEREAS, In 1959, in response to these concerns, building |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | officials for the City of Edinburg took the lead in establishing an |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | organization called the Building Trades Inspectors Association of |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | the Lower Rio Grande Valley; the group changed its name to the |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | Valley Building Officials Association in 1964; and |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | WHEREAS, Thanks to the hard work and determination of |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | dedicated building inspectors over the past half-century, the VBOA |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | has continued to serve the citizens of the Valley by expanding the |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | knowledge and unifying the procedures of building officials |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | throughout the area; since the establishment of this pioneering |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | association, similar groups have been created across the region and |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | the state; and |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | WHEREAS, These outstanding municipal and industry |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | professionals have contributed greatly to the quality of life in |
|---|
| 27 | 27 | | the Lower Rio Grande Valley, and they may take great pride in their |
|---|
| 28 | 28 | | proud history; now, therefore, be it |
|---|
| 29 | 29 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas |
|---|
| 30 | 30 | | Legislature hereby honor the Valley Building Officials Association |
|---|
| 31 | 31 | | on the 50th anniversary of its founding and extend to the |
|---|
| 32 | 32 | | association's members sincere best wishes for continued success; |
|---|

| 34 | 34 | | RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
