| 5 | 5 | | WHEREAS, During the past two decades, the Irving Arts Center |
|---|
| 6 | 6 | | has fostered an appreciation for artistic endeavor and offered area |
|---|
| 7 | 7 | | residents the opportunity to experience art in a variety of |
|---|
| 8 | 8 | | mediums; and |
|---|
| 9 | 9 | | WHEREAS, A vibrant arts community is one of the hallmarks of a |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | civilized society, and Irving's citizens have sought to promote and |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | nurture the arts through the establishment of the City of Irving |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | Arts Board; this 11-member body opened the first phase of the Irving |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | Arts Center in 1986, and oversaw its completion four years later; |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | and |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | WHEREAS, Today, the center offers two state-of-the-art |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | theaters, four galleries, meeting, classroom, reception, and |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | rehearsal facilities, and a sculpture garden; more than 20 rotating |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | exhibitions are featured each year, and in fiscal year 2007, the |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | center hosted more than 250 symphonic presentations, theatrical |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | productions, and other performing arts events; and |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | WHEREAS, Area youth find opportunities for self-expression |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | through the KidsArts program, which includes story times, live |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | performances, Saturday School, summer camp, Family Fundays, and |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | free festivals; and |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | WHEREAS, In 2007, the center was named an affiliate of the |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | Smithsonian Museum, becoming one of only 159 facilities nationwide |
|---|
| 27 | 27 | | to earn that honor; and |
|---|
| 28 | 28 | | WHEREAS, The Irving Arts Center provides a wealth of cultural |
|---|
| 29 | 29 | | opportunities to the residents of North Texas, and it has truly |
|---|
| 30 | 30 | | become a treasured centerpiece of the Irving community; now, |
|---|
| 31 | 31 | | therefore, be it |
|---|
| 32 | 32 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas |
|---|
| 33 | 33 | | Legislature hereby honor the Irving Arts Center and extend to all |
|---|
| 34 | 34 | | those associated with this noteworthy institution sincere best |
|---|
| 35 | 35 | | wishes for continued success; and, be it further |
|---|
| 36 | 36 | | RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
|---|
| 37 | 37 | | prepared for the center as an expression of high regard by the Texas |
|---|
