5 | 5 | | WHEREAS, After more than three decades of distinguished |

6 | 6 | | service to the Laredo Independent School District, Maria del Carmen |

7 | 7 | | S. Sandoval retired as director for instructional technology in |

8 | 8 | | June 2008; and |
---|
9 | 9 | | WHEREAS, Maria Sandoval graduated from The University of |
---|
10 | 10 | | Texas with honors in 1974, having earned a bachelor's degree in |
---|
11 | 11 | | elementary education and a Texas Educator Certificate; she resumed |
---|
12 | 12 | | her studies at UT the following year and obtained a master's degree |
---|
13 | 13 | | in vocational rehabilitation counseling; she went on to receive |
---|
14 | 14 | | additional certifications in special education supervision, |
---|
15 | 15 | | distance learning, and virtual instruction; and |
---|
16 | 16 | | WHEREAS, After joining Laredo ISD in 1974, Ms. Sandoval |
---|
17 | 17 | | worked in special education for nearly two decades and held the |
---|
18 | 18 | | positions of resource teacher, vocational adjustment coordinator, |
---|
19 | 19 | | and supervisor; in 1991, she became a technology coordinator, and |
---|
20 | 20 | | for the next 16 years, she helped modernize many of the district's |
---|
21 | 21 | | operations as a member of the technology committee; in addition to |
---|
22 | 22 | | introducing automated library software, she assisted the |
---|
23 | 23 | | leadership team in establishing expectations for both students' and |
---|
24 | 24 | | educators' technology proficiencies, purchasing communication |
---|
25 | 25 | | software, developing online grade books and lesson planners, and |
---|
26 | 26 | | initiating a laptop program for teachers; she also wrote technology |
---|
27 | 27 | | grants and created online training and professional development |
---|
28 | 28 | | courses; and |
---|
29 | 29 | | WHEREAS, Ms. Sandoval was active in the Texas Computer |
---|
30 | 30 | | Education Association and the Laredo Administrative and |
---|
31 | 31 | | Supervisors' Association, and she was honored with a Madrina Award |
---|
32 | 32 | | from the Dell TechKnow Group at Laredo ISD; moreover, her expertise |
---|
33 | 33 | | in the field of technology was recognized when she was appointed to |
---|
34 | 34 | | the superintendent's cabinet and the Region I Education Service |
---|
35 | 35 | | Center Technology Advisory Committee; and |
---|
36 | 36 | | WHEREAS, This esteemed Texan demonstrated a commitment to |
---|
37 | 37 | | excellence in all of her professional endeavors, and her hard work |
---|
38 | 38 | | and dedication significantly benefited area schoolchildren as well |
---|
39 | 39 | | as the greater community; now, therefore, be it |
---|
40 | 40 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas |
---|
41 | 41 | | Legislature hereby commend Maria del Carmen S. Sandoval for her |
---|
42 | 42 | | notable contributions to the students of Laredo and the Laredo |
---|
43 | 43 | | Independent School District and extend to her sincere best wishes |
---|
44 | 44 | | for continued success and happiness; and, be it further |
