44 R E S O L U T I O N
55 WHEREAS, After more than three decades of distinguished
66 service to the Laredo Independent School District, Maria del Carmen
77 S. Sandoval retired as director for instructional technology in
88 June 2008; and
99 WHEREAS, Maria Sandoval graduated from The University of
1010 Texas with honors in 1974, having earned a bachelor's degree in
1111 elementary education and a Texas Educator Certificate; she resumed
1212 her studies at UT the following year and obtained a master's degree
1313 in vocational rehabilitation counseling; she went on to receive
1414 additional certifications in special education supervision,
1515 distance learning, and virtual instruction; and
1616 WHEREAS, After joining Laredo ISD in 1974, Ms. Sandoval
1717 worked in special education for nearly two decades and held the
1818 positions of resource teacher, vocational adjustment coordinator,
1919 and supervisor; in 1991, she became a technology coordinator, and
2020 for the next 16 years, she helped modernize many of the district's
2121 operations as a member of the technology committee; in addition to
2222 introducing automated library software, she assisted the
2323 leadership team in establishing expectations for both students' and
2424 educators' technology proficiencies, purchasing communication
2525 software, developing online grade books and lesson planners, and
2626 initiating a laptop program for teachers; she also wrote technology
2727 grants and created online training and professional development
2828 courses; and
2929 WHEREAS, Ms. Sandoval was active in the Texas Computer
3030 Education Association and the Laredo Administrative and
3131 Supervisors' Association, and she was honored with a Madrina Award
3232 from the Dell TechKnow Group at Laredo ISD; moreover, her expertise
3333 in the field of technology was recognized when she was appointed to
3434 the superintendent's cabinet and the Region I Education Service
3535 Center Technology Advisory Committee; and
3636 WHEREAS, This esteemed Texan demonstrated a commitment to
3737 excellence in all of her professional endeavors, and her hard work
3838 and dedication significantly benefited area schoolchildren as well
3939 as the greater community; now, therefore, be it
4040 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas
4141 Legislature hereby commend Maria del Carmen S. Sandoval for her
4242 notable contributions to the students of Laredo and the Laredo
4343 Independent School District and extend to her sincere best wishes
4444 for continued success and happiness; and, be it further
4545 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
4646 prepared for Ms. Sandoval as an expression of high regard by the
4747 Texas House of Representatives.
