44 R E S O L U T I O N
55 WHEREAS, Rabbi Shimon Lazaroff of Houston has faithfully
66 served the spiritual needs of his community and enriched the lives
77 of countless residents since establishing Chabad Lubavitch of Texas
88 in 1972; and
99 WHEREAS, Headquartered in New York, Chabad Lubavitch is the
1010 largest Jewish organization in the world, with more than 3,000
1111 branches that promote spiritual awareness, knowledge, and practice
1212 through outreach, education, and social services; Rabbi Lazaroff
1313 has facilitated the growth of Chabad branches and activities
1414 throughout Texas, and he established Chabad Houses in College
1515 Station, Dallas-Fort Worth, El Paso, Plano, San Antonio, Sugar
1616 Land, South Padre Island, and Austin, as well as Houston; among
1717 other services, these centers provide day schools and camps,
1818 educational resources, and prison chaplaincy; and
1919 WHEREAS, Rabbi Lazaroff serves as the state's regional
2020 director for Texas Friends of Chabad Lubavitch and as the executive
2121 director of the Chabad Lubavitch Center in Houston, which includes
2222 a synagogue, the Torah Day School of Houston, Chabad Hebrew School,
2323 camp, and other educational and cultural programs; in addition, he
2424 is a member of the board and executive committee of the
2525 international Chabad organization in Brooklyn; and
2626 WHEREAS, Born in the former Soviet Union, Rabbi Lazaroff was
2727 educated in Paris, France, before earning a scholarship to study at
2828 the Chabad Talmudical Academy in Israel; in 1958, he moved to New
2929 York City and attended the Central Lubavitcher Yeshiva Tomchei
3030 Temimim; he received ordination from the Central Lubavitcher
3131 Yeshiva and following two years of postgraduate work, this
3232 exceptional scholar was ordained a rabbinical judge; he served in
3333 important leadership roles in the Lubavitch Youth Organization
3434 before arriving in Texas in 1972; and
3535 WHEREAS, Rabbi Lazaroff, a devoted family man, is supported
3636 in all his endeavors by his wife, Rebbetzin Chiena Lazaroff, and
3737 their 11 children; this esteemed spiritual leader's faith,
3838 scholarship, and many good works have been a source of profound
3939 inspiration to innumerable Texans for more than three decades, and
4040 his accomplishments have made a lasting and positive difference in
4141 communities across the Lone Star State; now, therefore, be it
4242 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas
4343 Legislature hereby honor Rabbi Shimon Lazaroff and extend to him
4444 sincere best wishes for continued success in his noteworthy
4545 endeavors; and, be it further
4646 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
4747 prepared for Rabbi Lazaroff as an expression of high regard by the
4848 Texas House of Representatives.
