5 | 5 | | WHEREAS, Rabbi Shimon Lazaroff of Houston has faithfully |

7 | 7 | | of countless residents since establishing Chabad Lubavitch of Texas |

8 | 8 | | in 1972; and |

9 | 9 | | WHEREAS, Headquartered in New York, Chabad Lubavitch is the |
---|
10 | 10 | | largest Jewish organization in the world, with more than 3,000 |
---|
11 | 11 | | branches that promote spiritual awareness, knowledge, and practice |
---|
12 | 12 | | through outreach, education, and social services; Rabbi Lazaroff |
---|
13 | 13 | | has facilitated the growth of Chabad branches and activities |
---|
14 | 14 | | throughout Texas, and he established Chabad Houses in College |
---|
15 | 15 | | Station, Dallas-Fort Worth, El Paso, Plano, San Antonio, Sugar |
---|
16 | 16 | | Land, South Padre Island, and Austin, as well as Houston; among |

17 | 17 | | other services, these centers provide day schools and camps, |
---|
18 | 18 | | educational resources, and prison chaplaincy; and |
---|
19 | 19 | | WHEREAS, Rabbi Lazaroff serves as the state's regional |
---|
20 | 20 | | director for Texas Friends of Chabad Lubavitch and as the executive |
---|
21 | 21 | | director of the Chabad Lubavitch Center in Houston, which includes |
---|
22 | 22 | | a synagogue, the Torah Day School of Houston, Chabad Hebrew School, |
---|
23 | 23 | | camp, and other educational and cultural programs; in addition, he |
---|
24 | 24 | | is a member of the board and executive committee of the |
---|
25 | 25 | | international Chabad organization in Brooklyn; and |
---|
26 | 26 | | WHEREAS, Born in the former Soviet Union, Rabbi Lazaroff was |
---|
27 | 27 | | educated in Paris, France, before earning a scholarship to study at |
---|
28 | 28 | | the Chabad Talmudical Academy in Israel; in 1958, he moved to New |
---|
29 | 29 | | York City and attended the Central Lubavitcher Yeshiva Tomchei |
---|
30 | 30 | | Temimim; he received ordination from the Central Lubavitcher |
---|
31 | 31 | | Yeshiva and following two years of postgraduate work, this |
---|
32 | 32 | | exceptional scholar was ordained a rabbinical judge; he served in |
---|
33 | 33 | | important leadership roles in the Lubavitch Youth Organization |
---|
34 | 34 | | before arriving in Texas in 1972; and |
---|
35 | 35 | | WHEREAS, Rabbi Lazaroff, a devoted family man, is supported |
---|
36 | 36 | | in all his endeavors by his wife, Rebbetzin Chiena Lazaroff, and |
---|
37 | 37 | | their 11 children; this esteemed spiritual leader's faith, |
---|
38 | 38 | | scholarship, and many good works have been a source of profound |
---|
39 | 39 | | inspiration to innumerable Texans for more than three decades, and |
---|
40 | 40 | | his accomplishments have made a lasting and positive difference in |
---|
41 | 41 | | communities across the Lone Star State; now, therefore, be it |

42 | 42 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas |

43 | 43 | | Legislature hereby honor Rabbi Shimon Lazaroff and extend to him |

44 | 44 | | sincere best wishes for continued success in his noteworthy |
