5	5	WHEREAS, Dr. Royce Money, who has rendered outstanding
6	6	service as president of Abilene Christian University, is retiring
7	7	from that position on May 31, 2010, and transitioning into a new
8	8	role as ACU chancellor; and
9	9	WHEREAS, A native of Temple, Royce Money became the first
10	10	member of his family to attend college, earning both his bachelor's
11	11	and master of divinity degrees from ACU and his doctorate in
12	12	religion from Baylor University; in addition, he received a
13	13	master's degree in human development and the family from the
14	14	University of Nebraska; and
15	15	WHEREAS, Dr. Money worked in the ministry for more than a
16	16	dozen years until ACU recruited him as an associate professor of
17	17	marriage and family therapy in 1981; a few years later, he
18	18	transferred to the Bible department to help develop and direct the
19	19	school's ministry program; in 1987, he became executive assistant
20	20	to the university's then president, Bill Teague, and served as vice
21	21	president and provost before becoming the institution's 10th
22	22	president in 1991; and
23	23	WHEREAS, Over the course of Dr. Money's tenure the school's
24	24	national reputation has grown significantly, and its numerous
25	25	accolades include high marks in the U.S. News & World Report 2009
26	26	edition of "America's Best Colleges," where it ranks No. 1 in the
27	27	16-state western region for innovative leadership; ACU's Mobile
28	28	Learning Initiative recently received the Institutional Excellence
29	29	Award from the Association for Information Communications
30	30	Technology Professionals in Higher Education; moreover, the
31	31	university won inclusion in the publication America's 100 Best
32	32	College Buys for 12 consecutive years and earned a spot on the 2008
33	33	President's Higher Education Community Service Honor Roll; and
34	34	WHEREAS, Under Dr. Money's skillful leadership, the ACU
35	35	endowment has more than quadrupled to over $236 million, and the
36	36	university has received more than $300 million in operating,
37	37	capital, and endowment gifts; successful capital campaigns have
38	38	funded major renovations of campus facilities and the construction
39	39	of many new buildings, including a special events center, a
40	40	performing arts center, and a residence hall; and
41	41	WHEREAS, This dynamic educator directed the creation of the
42	42	School of Social Work and the School of Information Technology and
43	43	Computing, and he has overseen an increase in the number of academic
44	44	programs achieving specialized accreditation and the addition of
45	45	key graduate and professional programs, including speech-language
46	46	pathology and conflict resolution; he has also demonstrated a
47	47	commitment to developing a more diverse and global focus through
48	48	the expansion of study abroad programs and online degree programs,
49	49	as well as the establishment of the Office for Student
50	50	Multicultural Enrichment; the diversity of the student body has
51	51	increased as well, and ACU today draws students from 60 foreign
52	52	countries, as well as most of the 50 states; and
53	53	WHEREAS, In all his endeavors, Dr. Money enjoys the love and
54	54	support of his wife, Pam, and their daughters, Alison and Jennifer,
55	55	all of whom count themselves as proud ACU alums; and
56	56	WHEREAS, Royce Money's vision and expertise have contributed
57	57	immeasurably to the stature of Abilene Christian University, and
58	58	the school's students and faculty are indeed fortunate to continue
59	59	to benefit from his guidance and dedication; now, therefore, be it
60	60	RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas
61	61	Legislature hereby commend Dr. Royce Money for his outstanding
62	62	achievements as president of Abilene Christian University and
63	63	extend to him sincere best wishes for success in his new role as
64	64	chancellor; and, be it further
65	65	RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
66	66	prepared for Dr. Money as an expression of high regard by the Texas
67	67	House of Representatives.
