 R E S O L U T I O N
 WHEREAS, Dr. J. James Rohack is being installed as president
 of the largest medical society in the United States, the American
 Medical Association, in June 2009, and he brings a wealth of
 experience to his new position; and
 WHEREAS, A member of the organization's board of trustees
 since 2001, Dr. Rohack served as chair from 2004 to 2005, and he
 served on all its intraboard committees, chairing both the
 executive committee and the organization and operations committee;
 his efforts have also benefited the board of commissioners of the
 Joint Commission, the National Advisory Council of the Agency for
 Healthcare Research and Quality, and the Hospital Quality Alliance;
 and
 WHEREAS, Dr. Rohack is a senior staff cardiologist at Scott &
 White Clinic in Temple, where he also serves as the director of the
 Center for Healthcare Policy and as director for system improvement
 of the institution's not-for-profit health plan; nurturing
 doctors-in-training as a professor at The Texas A&M Health Science
 Center College of Medicine, he has demonstrated his commitment to
 advancing educational standards through his work on the AMA Council
 on Medical Education and as AMA representative to the Liaison
 Committee on Medical Education and the Accreditation Council for
 Continuing Medical Education; and
 WHEREAS, This esteemed professional has made further
 contributions through his service on The Texas A&M University Bush
 School of Government and Public Service Advisory Board, The
 University of Texas M. D. Anderson Cancer Center Executive Advisory
 Panel, The Texas A&M University System Health Science Center School
 of Rural Public Health External Advisory Board, and the board of
 directors of the American College of Cardiology, Texas Chapter; a
 graduate of The University of Texas at El Paso and The University of
 Texas Medical Branch at Galveston, he has been recognized by both
 schools as a distinguished alumnus; and
 WHEREAS, In taking on this new challenge as AMA president,
 James Rohack has demonstrated a profound commitment to his
 professional community, and he is sure to be a strong advocate for
 the association in its mission to promote the art and science of
 medicine and the betterment of public health; now, therefore, be it
 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas
 Legislature hereby congratulate Dr. J. James Rohack on his
 installation as president of the American Medical Association and
 extend to him sincere best wishes for a successful tenure; and, be
 it further
 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
 prepared for Dr. Rohack as an expression of high regard by the Texas
 House of Representatives.
