5	5	WHEREAS, Dr. J. James Rohack is being installed as president
6	6	of the largest medical society in the United States, the American
7	7	Medical Association, in June 2009, and he brings a wealth of
8	8	experience to his new position; and
9	9	WHEREAS, A member of the organization's board of trustees
10	10	since 2001, Dr. Rohack served as chair from 2004 to 2005, and he
11	11	served on all its intraboard committees, chairing both the
12	12	executive committee and the organization and operations committee;
13	13	his efforts have also benefited the board of commissioners of the
14	14	Joint Commission, the National Advisory Council of the Agency for
15	15	Healthcare Research and Quality, and the Hospital Quality Alliance;
16	16	and
17	17	WHEREAS, Dr. Rohack is a senior staff cardiologist at Scott &
18	18	White Clinic in Temple, where he also serves as the director of the
19	19	Center for Healthcare Policy and as director for system improvement
20	20	of the institution's not-for-profit health plan; nurturing
21	21	doctors-in-training as a professor at The Texas A&M Health Science
22	22	Center College of Medicine, he has demonstrated his commitment to
23	23	advancing educational standards through his work on the AMA Council
24	24	on Medical Education and as AMA representative to the Liaison
25	25	Committee on Medical Education and the Accreditation Council for
26	26	Continuing Medical Education; and
27	27	WHEREAS, This esteemed professional has made further
28	28	contributions through his service on The Texas A&M University Bush
29	29	School of Government and Public Service Advisory Board, The
30	30	University of Texas M. D. Anderson Cancer Center Executive Advisory
31	31	Panel, The Texas A&M University System Health Science Center School
32	32	of Rural Public Health External Advisory Board, and the board of
33	33	directors of the American College of Cardiology, Texas Chapter; a
34	34	graduate of The University of Texas at El Paso and The University of
35	35	Texas Medical Branch at Galveston, he has been recognized by both
36	36	schools as a distinguished alumnus; and
37	37	WHEREAS, In taking on this new challenge as AMA president,
38	38	James Rohack has demonstrated a profound commitment to his
39	39	professional community, and he is sure to be a strong advocate for
40	40	the association in its mission to promote the art and science of
41	41	medicine and the betterment of public health; now, therefore, be it
42	42	RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas
43	43	Legislature hereby congratulate Dr. J. James Rohack on his
44	44	installation as president of the American Medical Association and
45	45	extend to him sincere best wishes for a successful tenure; and, be
46	46	it further
47	47	RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
48	48	prepared for Dr. Rohack as an expression of high regard by the Texas
49	49	House of Representatives.
