5 | 5 | | WHEREAS, The valiant Americans who fought for this country |

6 | 6 | | during the crucial years of World War II are deserving of the |

7 | 7 | | highest respect; and |
---|
8 | 8 | | WHEREAS, Felix Rodriguez, Sr., of Elsa was among those who |
---|
9 | 9 | | endured the grim dangers of war to preserve this nation's freedom at |
---|
10 | 10 | | that critical juncture; and |
---|
11 | 11 | | WHEREAS, Born in McAllen in 1926, Mr. Rodriguez enlisted in |
---|
12 | 12 | | the U.S. Army in September 1944, and as a rifleman with Troop E, 8th |
---|
13 | 13 | | Cavalry Regiment, he served with distinction in the Pacific |
---|
14 | 14 | | Theater; after helping to liberate the Philippines, he witnessed |
---|
15 | 15 | | the Japanese surrender ceremony aboard the USS Missouri in Tokyo |
---|
16 | 16 | | Bay; and |
---|
17 | 17 | | WHEREAS, Private Rodriguez earned a number of military honors |
---|
18 | 18 | | for his intrepid service, including the Good Conduct Medal, the |
---|
19 | 19 | | Asiatic-Pacific Campaign Medal and Ribbon with two Bronze Stars, |
---|
20 | 20 | | the World War II Victory Medal, the Army of Occupation Medal, the |
---|
21 | 21 | | Philippine Presidential Unit Citation, the Philippine Liberation |
---|
22 | 22 | | Medal and Ribbon with two Bronze Stars, two Overseas Service Bars, |

23 | 23 | | and the Combat Infantryman Badge; and |
---|
24 | 24 | | WHEREAS, After his discharge from the military in 1946, Mr. |

25 | 25 | | Rodriguez began a career as a truck driver that spanned more than |

26 | 26 | | half a century; through the years, he has been a loving husband to |
---|
27 | 27 | | his wife of six decades, Esperanza Madrigal Rodriguez, and a caring |
---|
28 | 28 | | father to his many children; and |
---|
29 | 29 | | WHEREAS, Mr. Rodriguez has also taken an active role in his |
---|
30 | 30 | | community, helping to found the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. |
---|
31 | 31 | | 7473 in Elsa; and |
---|
32 | 32 | | WHEREAS, Each year on Veterans Day we reflect on the |
---|
33 | 33 | | contributions made by the members of America's armed forces, and in |
---|
34 | 34 | | that spirit, the members of this chamber recognize the tremendous |
---|
35 | 35 | | valor of Private Felix Rodriguez and his noble actions in behalf of |
---|
36 | 36 | | his country and its citizens; now, therefore, be it |
---|
37 | 37 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas |

38 | 38 | | Legislature hereby honor Felix Rodriguez, Sr., for his courageous |

39 | 39 | | service as a member of the United States Army during World War II |

40 | 40 | | and extend to him sincere appreciation for his steadfast |
