44 R E S O L U T I O N
55 WHEREAS, Earl Milton Morin, Jr., of Houston died on May 20,
66 2009, at the age of 67, leaving behind many friends and admirers
77 with treasured memories of time spent in his company; and
88 WHEREAS, Born in Houston on December 27, 1941, to Earl Milton
99 Morin, Sr., and LaNelle Sheffield Morin, Milton Morin enjoyed the
1010 companionship of two sisters, Nell and Carol; he graduated in 1960
1111 from St. Thomas High School and went on to earn undergraduate
1212 degrees in history from the University of St. Thomas and in
1313 journalism from the University of Houston; and
1414 WHEREAS, Mr. Morin continued his family's legacy in the
1515 newspaper business as the third-generation owner and publisher of
1616 Houston's Daily Court Review from 1970 to 2004 and as publisher
1717 emeritus from 2004 to 2009; and
1818 WHEREAS, A dedicated journalist and an avid believer in
1919 transparency in government, he was actively involved in municipal
2020 affairs in his hometown and a frequent visitor to the State Capitol
2121 to meet with elected officials; his professional affiliations
2222 included the Texas Press Association, the Texas Gulf Coast Press
2323 Association, the Texas Daily Newspaper Association, the National
2424 Newspaper Association, and American Court and Commercial
2525 Newspapers, Inc.; he was also a member of the TDNA/TPA legislative
2626 advisory committee; and
2727 WHEREAS, Mr. Morin wrote not only news stories but also
2828 poetry and prose, and he had recently completed a comprehensive
2929 genealogy on the Morin family; his strong religious faith led him to
3030 serve as an elder in several congregations and lead services at area
3131 retirement communities; a voracious reader who favored the Bible
3232 and history books, he also enjoyed woodworking, traveling, and
3333 playing golf in his retirement; and
3434 WHEREAS, A kind and generous man who readily offered
3535 assistance to anyone in need, Milton Morin will forever be
3636 remembered for his warm and outgoing nature, his delightful sense
3737 of humor, and his passionate engagement in the world around him;
3838 now, therefore, be it
3939 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas
4040 Legislature hereby pay tribute to the life of Earl Milton Morin,
4141 Jr., and extend sincere sympathy to the members of his family: to
4242 his wife of 43 years, Elizabeth Morin; to his children, Thomas
4343 Milton Morin and his wife, Julie, and Sarah Morin Geyer and her
4444 husband, Mark; to his granddaughter, Maya Kathryn Morin; to his
4545 sister and her husband, Nell Jeanne Morin Gudger and the Reverend
4646 Gordon Gudger; and to his other relatives and friends; and, be it
4747 further
4848 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
4949 prepared for his family and that when the Texas House of
5050 Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Earl Morin.
