5	5	WHEREAS, Earl Milton Morin, Jr., of Houston died on May 20,
6	6	2009, at the age of 67, leaving behind many friends and admirers
7	7	with treasured memories of time spent in his company; and
8	8	WHEREAS, Born in Houston on December 27, 1941, to Earl Milton
9	9	Morin, Sr., and LaNelle Sheffield Morin, Milton Morin enjoyed the
10	10	companionship of two sisters, Nell and Carol; he graduated in 1960
11	11	from St. Thomas High School and went on to earn undergraduate
12	12	degrees in history from the University of St. Thomas and in
13	13	journalism from the University of Houston; and
14	14	WHEREAS, Mr. Morin continued his family's legacy in the
15	15	newspaper business as the third-generation owner and publisher of
16	16	Houston's Daily Court Review from 1970 to 2004 and as publisher
17	17	emeritus from 2004 to 2009; and
18	18	WHEREAS, A dedicated journalist and an avid believer in
19	19	transparency in government, he was actively involved in municipal
20	20	affairs in his hometown and a frequent visitor to the State Capitol
21	21	to meet with elected officials; his professional affiliations
22	22	included the Texas Press Association, the Texas Gulf Coast Press
23	23	Association, the Texas Daily Newspaper Association, the National
24	24	Newspaper Association, and American Court and Commercial
25	25	Newspapers, Inc.; he was also a member of the TDNA/TPA legislative
26	26	advisory committee; and
27	27	WHEREAS, Mr. Morin wrote not only news stories but also
28	28	poetry and prose, and he had recently completed a comprehensive
29	29	genealogy on the Morin family; his strong religious faith led him to
30	30	serve as an elder in several congregations and lead services at area
31	31	retirement communities; a voracious reader who favored the Bible
32	32	and history books, he also enjoyed woodworking, traveling, and
33	33	playing golf in his retirement; and
34	34	WHEREAS, A kind and generous man who readily offered
35	35	assistance to anyone in need, Milton Morin will forever be
36	36	remembered for his warm and outgoing nature, his delightful sense
37	37	of humor, and his passionate engagement in the world around him;
38	38	now, therefore, be it
39	39	RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas
40	40	Legislature hereby pay tribute to the life of Earl Milton Morin,
41	41	Jr., and extend sincere sympathy to the members of his family: to
42	42	his wife of 43 years, Elizabeth Morin; to his children, Thomas
43	43	Milton Morin and his wife, Julie, and Sarah Morin Geyer and her
44	44	husband, Mark; to his granddaughter, Maya Kathryn Morin; to his
45	45	sister and her husband, Nell Jeanne Morin Gudger and the Reverend
46	46	Gordon Gudger; and to his other relatives and friends; and, be it
47	47	further
48	48	RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
49	49	prepared for his family and that when the Texas House of
50	50	Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Earl Morin.
