 R E S O L U T I O N
 WHEREAS, Dr. Xavier De La Torre has been named the new
 superintendent of the Socorro Independent School District in El
 Paso; and
 WHEREAS, Dr. De La Torre graduated from California State
 University in Chico with a bachelor's degree in social science, and
 he holds a master's degree in educational leadership from the
 University of San Francisco; he earned his Ph.D. in education
 policy and administration from the University of
 California--Davis; and
 WHEREAS, This outstanding educator has taught social studies
 and Spanish and has coached both football and baseball; he spent two
 years as an assistant high school principal and six years as a
 principal before assuming the post of associate superintendent for
 human resources in the Fairfield-Suisun Unified School District in
 California; and
 WHEREAS, For the past four years, Dr. De La Torre has been
 associate superintendent for human resources for the Elk Grove
 Unified School District in Elk Grove, California, the fifth largest
 school district in the state, with a student population of 62,000;
 in that capacity, he has been responsible for the recruitment,
 evaluation, compensation, and retention of 5,600 employees; and
 WHEREAS, Dr. De La Torre brings to his new position in El Paso
 both impressive academic credentials and broad practical
 experience, and it is a pleasure to join in welcoming this
 distinguished educator to the Lone Star State; now, therefore, be
 it
 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas
 Legislature hereby congratulate Dr. Xavier De La Torre on his
 appointment as superintendent of the Socorro Independent School
 District and extend to him sincere best wishes for continued
 success in all his endeavors; and, be it further
 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
 prepared for Dr. De La Torre as an expression of high regard by the
 Texas House of Representatives.
