| 5 | 5 | | WHEREAS, Dr. Xavier De La Torre has been named the new |

| 6 | 6 | | superintendent of the Socorro Independent School District in El |
|---|
| 7 | 7 | | Paso; and |
|---|
| 8 | 8 | | WHEREAS, Dr. De La Torre graduated from California State |
|---|
| 9 | 9 | | University in Chico with a bachelor's degree in social science, and |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | he holds a master's degree in educational leadership from the |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | University of San Francisco; he earned his Ph.D. in education |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | policy and administration from the University of |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | California--Davis; and |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | WHEREAS, This outstanding educator has taught social studies |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | and Spanish and has coached both football and baseball; he spent two |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | years as an assistant high school principal and six years as a |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | principal before assuming the post of associate superintendent for |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | human resources in the Fairfield-Suisun Unified School District in |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | California; and |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | WHEREAS, For the past four years, Dr. De La Torre has been |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | associate superintendent for human resources for the Elk Grove |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | Unified School District in Elk Grove, California, the fifth largest |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | school district in the state, with a student population of 62,000; |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | in that capacity, he has been responsible for the recruitment, |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | evaluation, compensation, and retention of 5,600 employees; and |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | WHEREAS, Dr. De La Torre brings to his new position in El Paso |
|---|
| 27 | 27 | | both impressive academic credentials and broad practical |
|---|
| 28 | 28 | | experience, and it is a pleasure to join in welcoming this |
|---|
| 29 | 29 | | distinguished educator to the Lone Star State; now, therefore, be |

| 31 | 31 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas |
