| 5 | 5 | | WHEREAS, Marina Hansen has been named the 2009 Secondary |

| 6 | 6 | | Teacher of the Year by the Socorro Independent School District in El |

| 7 | 7 | | Paso; and |
|---|
| 8 | 8 | | WHEREAS, The prestigious Teacher of the Year award is |
|---|
| 9 | 9 | | presented to educators who act as strong role models and who help |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | their students develop skills they can use beyond the classroom; |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | and |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | WHEREAS, Ms. Hansen earned her bachelor's degree in special |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | education and her master's degree in education from The University |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | of Texas at El Paso; a veteran teacher with 28 years' experience, |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | she has been with the Socorro ISD for 12 years, the first 10 of those |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | at Montwood High School; and |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | WHEREAS, For the past two years, Ms. Hansen has taught pre-AP |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | English at Mission Early College High School, where she is a mentor |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | teacher, the AVID instructor, and the Leadership Council adviser; |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | she additionally serves as a teaching consultant with the West |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | Texas Writing Project; and |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | WHEREAS, Children are the Lone Star State's most precious |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | resource, and a solid education is vital in order for our young |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | people to become successful adults; Ms. Hansen exemplifies the |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | qualities that make a truly great teacher, and she indeed merits |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | special recognition; now, therefore, be it |
|---|
| 27 | 27 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas |

| 28 | 28 | | Legislature hereby congratulate Marina Hansen on her selection as |

| 29 | 29 | | the 2009 Secondary Teacher of the Year by the Socorro Independent |
