| 5 | 5 | | WHEREAS, Amelia Anchondo has been named the 2009 Elementary |

| 6 | 6 | | Teacher of the Year by the Socorro Independent School District in El |

| 7 | 7 | | Paso; and |
|---|
| 8 | 8 | | WHEREAS, The prestigious Teacher of the Year award is |
|---|
| 9 | 9 | | presented to educators who act as strong role models and who help |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | their students develop skills they can use beyond the classroom; |

| 11 | 11 | | and |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | WHEREAS, Ms. Anchondo earned her bachelor's degree in |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | education and her certification in bilingual and ESL education from |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | The University of Texas at El Paso; now a kindergarten teacher at |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | Vista del Sol Elementary School, she has been with the Socorro ISD |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | for 11 years; and |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | WHEREAS, This veteran educator brings 40 years of experience |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | as a teacher to her classes, and she serves as a mentor for new |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | teachers and for the Teacher Induction Program of Socorro ISD; and |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | WHEREAS, Children are the Lone Star State's most precious |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | resource, and a solid education is vital in order for our young |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | people to become successful adults; Ms. Anchondo exemplifies the |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | qualities that make a truly great teacher, and she indeed merits |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | special recognition; now, therefore, be it |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas |

| 26 | 26 | | Legislature hereby congratulate Amelia Anchondo on her selection as |

| 27 | 27 | | the 2009 Elementary Teacher of the Year by the Socorro Independent |

| 28 | 28 | | School District and extend to her sincere best wishes for continued |
