| 5 | 5 | | WHEREAS, Jon English and Joey Morales have formed an |
|---|
| 6 | 6 | | outstanding team as members of the Buda Buddies mentorship program |
|---|
| 7 | 7 | | at Buda Elementary School, and as Joey moves on to junior high |
|---|
| 8 | 8 | | school, it is indeed fitting that the four years of camaraderie they |
|---|
| 9 | 9 | | have enjoyed together be recognized; and |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | WHEREAS, Joey Morales was just seven years old and in the |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | second grade when he and Mr. English became Buda Buddies; during |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | their first year in the program, they played computer games during |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | every visit, and then moved on to basketball, football, and soccer; |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | Mr. English has watched with great pride as his buddy has grown and |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | matured from a rambunctious child into an accomplished young man |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | who is an admired leader on campus and who excels in his indoor |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | soccer league and demonstrates tremendous team spirit; too small to |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | hit the regulation basketball hoop when they first met, Joey now |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | outscores Mr. English from behind the three-point line; and |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | WHEREAS, In addition, Joey recently broadened his artistic |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | horizons through participation in the school play, a production |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | based on the Boston Tea Party; he gave a riveting, nuanced |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | performance as the sea captain whose ship is boarded forcibly by |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | angry colonists; moreover, Joey has demonstrated exceptional |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | ability in mathematics, and his talent in that discipline will |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | surely serve him well as he continues his education and eventually |
|---|
| 27 | 27 | | embarks on an interesting and rewarding career; and |
|---|
| 28 | 28 | | WHEREAS, Although their time in the Buda Buddies program has |
|---|
| 29 | 29 | | come to an end, Jon English will forever treasure his experience as |
|---|
| 30 | 30 | | a mentor to Joey Morales, and we are pleased to join him in |
|---|
| 31 | 31 | | congratulating this remarkable young Texan on his many noteworthy |
|---|
| 32 | 32 | | accomplishments; now, therefore, be it |
|---|
| 33 | 33 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas |

| 34 | 34 | | Legislature hereby commemorate the four happy years that Jon |

| 35 | 35 | | English and Joey Morales have spent together in the Buda Elementary |
