44 R E S O L U T I O N
55 WHEREAS, June 11, 2009, marks the debut of the Coastal Bend
66 Thunder baseball team, which is beginning its first season of
77 competition in United League Baseball; and
88 WHEREAS, The newest franchise in the ULB, the Thunder will
99 compete against teams from Edinburg, Laredo, Harlingen, San Angelo,
1010 and Amarillo, which promises strong intrastate rivalries among the
1111 six ball clubs in the Texas-based league; and
1212 WHEREAS, The Coastal Bend team will make its home at
1313 Fairgrounds Field in Robstown, and the Thunder will throw out the
1414 first pitch there on June 15 after playing its opening series in
1515 Harlingen; and
1616 WHEREAS, Overseeing the team's operations are general
1717 manager C. J. Bauer and assistant general managers Ray Hunt and
1818 Javier Limon; the action on the field will be guided by manager Al
1919 Gallagher, a former major league player who has extensive
2020 experience at the helm of minor league teams; and
2121 WHEREAS, The Coastal Bend region is filled with passionate
2222 baseball fans, and the arrival of the Thunder promises them plenty
2323 of excitement and entertainment this summer and in seasons to come;
2424 now, therefore, be it
2525 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas
2626 Legislature hereby commemorate the inaugural season of play for the
2727 Coastal Bend Thunder baseball team and extend best wishes to the
2828 team's players, coaches, and management for great success; and, be
2929 it further
3030 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
3131 prepared for the Thunder as an expression of high regard by the
3232 Texas House of Representatives.
