H.R. No. 3003
R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, Susan Melendez has played an important role in the
success of the YWCA El Paso del Norte Region, which is celebrating
its 100th anniversary in 2009; and
WHEREAS, Ms. Melendez first became involved with the YWCA in
the 1990s as a member of its communications committee; she went on
to join the board of directors and, during her tenure, a Boy Scout
camp was renovated and plans were made for a transitional living
center for homeless women and children; in addition, after the El
Paso Natural Gas Company presented the YWCA with an athletic
facility and more than 400 acres of undeveloped land, Ms. Melendez
was instrumental in the effort to open the Hueco Conference and
Recreation Center; and
WHEREAS, Dedicated volunteers are vital to the betterment of
communities across the Lone Star State, and Susan Melendez has set
an outstanding example of leadership and generosity through her
work with this noteworthy organization; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas
Legislature hereby commend Susan Melendez for her admirable record
of service with the YWCA El Paso del Norte Region and extend to her
sincere best wishes for continued success and happiness; and, be it
further
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
prepared for Ms. Melendez as an expression of high regard by the
Texas House of Representatives.
