5	5	WHEREAS, Susan Melendez has played an important role in the
6	6	success of the YWCA El Paso del Norte Region, which is celebrating
7	7	its 100th anniversary in 2009; and
8	8	WHEREAS, Ms. Melendez first became involved with the YWCA in
9	9	the 1990s as a member of its communications committee; she went on
10	10	to join the board of directors and, during her tenure, a Boy Scout
11	11	camp was renovated and plans were made for a transitional living
12	12	center for homeless women and children; in addition, after the El
13	13	Paso Natural Gas Company presented the YWCA with an athletic
14	14	facility and more than 400 acres of undeveloped land, Ms. Melendez
15	15	was instrumental in the effort to open the Hueco Conference and
16	16	Recreation Center; and
17	17	WHEREAS, Dedicated volunteers are vital to the betterment of
18	18	communities across the Lone Star State, and Susan Melendez has set
19	19	an outstanding example of leadership and generosity through her
20	20	work with this noteworthy organization; now, therefore, be it
21	21	RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas
22	22	Legislature hereby commend Susan Melendez for her admirable record
23	23	of service with the YWCA El Paso del Norte Region and extend to her
24	24	sincere best wishes for continued success and happiness; and, be it
25	25	further
26	26	RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
27	27	prepared for Ms. Melendez as an expression of high regard by the
28	28	Texas House of Representatives.
