| 5 | 5 | | WHEREAS, The YWCA El Paso del Norte Region is commemorating |
|---|
| 6 | 6 | | its centennial in 2009, and this notable milestone provides an |
|---|
| 7 | 7 | | opportune time to recognize Kathleen Peyton, who has greatly |
|---|
| 8 | 8 | | contributed to its success in the community; and |
|---|
| 9 | 9 | | WHEREAS, Ms. Peyton began volunteering with the YWCA in the |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | 1970s; in 1985, as associate executive director of programs, she |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | worked to create much-needed after-school child care for latchkey |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | children; established on school campuses, these programs provided |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | area youth with recreation, homework time, and refreshments; and |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | WHEREAS, The initiative thrived under Ms. Peyton's guidance, |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | and soon other recreational classes were organized for summer |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | vacation; a registered nurse, Ms. Peyton met with local regulatory |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | agencies and played a vital role in setting safety guidelines; her |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | efforts were instrumental in giving working mothers and fathers the |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | comfort of knowing that their children were engaged in healthy, |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | productive activities; and |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | WHEREAS, This esteemed Texan was also involved in the early |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | development of the Transitional Living Center, a program to assist |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | homeless women and children; offering classes in parenting skills, |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | time management, budgeting, and job training, the center has |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | benefited countless individuals through the years; and |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | WHEREAS, With her commitment to empowering those in need, |
|---|
| 27 | 27 | | Kathleen Peyton has had a positive impact on both the YWCA and the |
|---|
| 28 | 28 | | wider community it serves, and she may indeed reflect with great |
|---|
| 29 | 29 | | pride on her notable achievements and on the life-enhancing |
|---|
| 30 | 30 | | opportunities she has helped to create for so many fellow citizens; |
|---|
| 31 | 31 | | now, therefore, be it |
|---|
| 32 | 32 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas |
|---|
| 33 | 33 | | Legislature hereby honor Kathleen Peyton for her exemplary service |
|---|
| 34 | 34 | | to the YWCA El Paso del Norte Region and extend to her sincere best |

| 35 | 35 | | wishes for the future; and, be it further |
