| 5 | 5 | | WHEREAS, Mark Regalado of the Jim Wells County Sheriff's |

| 6 | 6 | | Department has been recognized as Law Officer of the Year at the |

| 7 | 7 | | 18th annual Jim Wells County Law Enforcement Appreciation Day |
|---|
| 8 | 8 | | event; and |
|---|
| 9 | 9 | | WHEREAS, A graduate of Falfurrias High School in 1998, Deputy |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | Regalado attended Texas A&M University-Kingsville; after |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | graduating from the Del Mar College Regional Police Academy, he |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | joined the Jim Wells County Sheriff's Department in December 2006 |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | as a licensed peace officer; and |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | WHEREAS, In little more than two years on the job, Deputy |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | Regalado has already demonstrated outstanding commitment and |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | initiative in serving and protecting the residents of Jim Wells |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | County; in 2007, he made 70 criminal arrests, recovered five stolen |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | vehicles, and was responsible for 44 criminal vehicle seizures; in |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | 2008, he made 69 more criminal vehicle seizures, including one |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | seizure of nearly $60,000 in illegal funds and two marijuana |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | seizures that totaled more than 6,800 pounds; he is also a member of |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | the SWAT team; and |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | WHEREAS, In addition to the Law Officer of the Year award, |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | this exemplary officer also received a second award recognizing his |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | hard work; and |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | WHEREAS, The well-being of Texas citizens depends in large |
|---|
| 27 | 27 | | part on the skill and dedication of our law enforcement officers, |
|---|
| 28 | 28 | | and Deputy Sheriff Mark Regalado has proven himself to be an |
|---|
| 29 | 29 | | exemplary member of his profession; now, therefore, be it |
|---|
| 30 | 30 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas |
|---|
| 31 | 31 | | Legislature hereby congratulate Deputy Sheriff Mark Regalado on |
|---|
| 32 | 32 | | being named Law Officer of the Year in Jim Wells County and extend |
|---|
| 33 | 33 | | to him sincere best wishes for continued success; and, be it further |
