| 5 | 5 | | WHEREAS, Otto Drozd has been appointed as the new chief of the |

| 6 | 6 | | El Paso Fire Department, and he officially took office on April 20, |

| 7 | 7 | | 2009; and |
|---|
| 8 | 8 | | WHEREAS, Raised in Hialeah, Florida, Chief Drozd earned |
|---|
| 9 | 9 | | associate degrees in business and fire science from Miami Dade |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | Community College; he went on to receive a bachelor's degree in |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | public management from Florida Atlantic University and a master's |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | degree in management from St. Thomas University in Miami; and |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | WHEREAS, Chief Drozd joined the Hialeah Fire Department in |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | 1986; he was promoted to fire engineer in 1989, to lieutenant in |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | 1991, and to district chief in 1994; he became chief of the |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | department in 2001; and |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | WHEREAS, With his appointment as fire chief for the City of El |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | Paso, this veteran firefighter joins a department with a 127-year |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | history, and he will be at the head of an experienced team of 800 |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | personnel; and |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | WHEREAS, Exemplifying the highest ideals of his profession, |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | Otto Drozd brings to El Paso 22 years of experience as a firefighter |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | and first responder, and it is indeed a pleasure to welcome him to |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | Texas; now, therefore, be it |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | Legislature hereby congratulate Otto Drozd on his appointment as |
|---|
| 27 | 27 | | fire chief for the City of El Paso and extend to him sincere best |
|---|
| 28 | 28 | | wishes for success in his new post; and, be it further |
