5 | 5 | | WHEREAS, The family and friends of U.S. Army Corporal Michael |

6 | 6 | | W. Davis suffered an immeasurable loss with the death of this |

7 | 7 | | valiant soldier on May 21, 2007, at the age of 22; and |
---|
8 | 8 | | WHEREAS, Assigned to the 425th Brigade Special Troops |
---|
9 | 9 | | Battalion, 4th Brigade Combat Team, 25th Infantry Division, based |
---|
10 | 10 | | at Fort Richardson, Alaska, Corporal Davis lost his life while |
---|
11 | 11 | | bravely serving his country in Iraq; and |
---|
12 | 12 | | WHEREAS, Michael Davis graduated from San Marcos High School |
---|
13 | 13 | | and went on to attend Texas State University; moved to join the army |
---|
14 | 14 | | after the events of September 11, 2001, he trained to become a |
---|
15 | 15 | | combat engineer at Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri, where his dedicated |
---|
16 | 16 | | service earned him the Commanding General's Award for Military |
---|
17 | 17 | | Excellence; and |
---|
18 | 18 | | WHEREAS, After earning his status as an Airborne Sapper at |
---|
19 | 19 | | Fort Benning, Georgia, he transferred to Alaska and was honored |
---|
20 | 20 | | with the Army Achievement Medal for his outstanding efforts during |
---|
21 | 21 | | predeployment training; highly decorated throughout his career, he |
---|
22 | 22 | | also earned the Bronze Star Medal, the Purple Heart, the Combat |
---|
23 | 23 | | Action Badge, and the Army Good Conduct Medal; and |
---|
24 | 24 | | WHEREAS, Corporal Davis was known for his light-up-a-room |
---|
25 | 25 | | smile and for his devotion to his wife, Taryn, whom he married in |
---|
26 | 26 | | December 2005; and |
---|
27 | 27 | | WHEREAS, Americans owe a profound debt to our nation's |
---|
28 | 28 | | servicemen and servicewomen, whose courageous efforts and enormous |
---|
29 | 29 | | sacrifices are deserving of their fellow citizens' deepest respect |
---|
30 | 30 | | and gratitude; through his unwavering dedication to duty and honor, |
---|
31 | 31 | | Michael Davis embodied the highest ideals of the United States |
---|
32 | 32 | | armed forces, and memories of his love and friendship will forever |
---|
33 | 33 | | be cherished by all those who held him dear; now, therefore, be it |

34 | 34 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas |

35 | 35 | | Legislature hereby pay tribute to the life of U.S. Army Corporal |
