| 5 | 5 | | WHEREAS, The Honorable Guadalupe Canales has ably served the |
|---|
| 6 | 6 | | people of Jim Hogg County as county judge since 2007, and his |
|---|
| 7 | 7 | | knowledge and dedication have earned him the respect of many people |
|---|
| 8 | 8 | | along the way; and |
|---|
| 9 | 9 | | WHEREAS, Judge Canales earned his bachelor's degree from |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | Texas A&M University--Kingsville in 1960 and went on to receive his |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | master's degree in 1970; a dedicated educator, he worked with the |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | Jim Hogg County Independent School District for many years, and his |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | success as a science teacher contributed to the accomplishments of |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | his students, who won numerous UIL awards and were invited to attend |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | the inauguration of President George H. W. Bush; also a successful |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | entrepreneur, he owned a grocery store in Hebbronville for more |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | than two decades; and |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | WHEREAS, Judge Canales first entered politics in 1972, |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | representing Precinct One on the Jim Hogg County Commissioners |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | Court for nearly a decade; during his notable tenure, he played a |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | vital role in the establishment of a street paving program, the |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | creation of a housing authority and airport in Hebbronville, and |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | the expansion of the courthouse; he has also donated his own money |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | to pave the City Plaza; and |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | WHEREAS, Beginning his tenure as county judge in 2007, he has |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | worked with students in the A&M--Kingsville architectural |
|---|
| 27 | 27 | | engineering program to bring local buildings up to code with the |
|---|
| 28 | 28 | | Americans with Disabilities Act; in addition, he has helped to |
|---|
| 29 | 29 | | bring a Family Center to Hebbronville and to establish a county |
|---|
| 30 | 30 | | nutrition program for the elderly; and |
|---|
| 31 | 31 | | WHEREAS, Guadalupe Canales has made many significant |
|---|
| 32 | 32 | | contributions to the betterment of life in Jim Hogg County over the |
|---|
| 33 | 33 | | course of his tenure as a public servant, and he may take |
|---|
| 34 | 34 | | justifiable pride in his exemplary record of achievement; now, |
|---|
| 35 | 35 | | therefore, be it |
|---|
| 36 | 36 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas |
|---|
| 37 | 37 | | Legislature hereby honor Judge Guadalupe Canales for his committed |
|---|
| 38 | 38 | | public service and extend to him sincere best wishes for the future; |
|---|
| 39 | 39 | | and, be it further |
|---|
| 40 | 40 | | RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
