| 5 | 5 | | WHEREAS, K. Michael Apodaca has demonstrated exceptional |
|---|
| 6 | 6 | | initiative and leadership through his active participation in |
|---|
| 7 | 7 | | electoral politics and his engagement with the urgent issues facing |
|---|
| 8 | 8 | | our state and nation; and |
|---|
| 9 | 9 | | WHEREAS, A 1999 graduate of Austin High School in El Paso, |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | Mr. Apodaca first became involved in Democratic Party politics that |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | same year as a member of the University of New Mexico College |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | Democrats; after returning to the Lone Star State to study |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | political science at The University of Texas at El Paso, he founded |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | the University Democrats in 2002; he served as the organization's |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | president until December 2004 and guided its many efforts to |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | increase voter participation and raise public awareness about |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | issues and candidates; and |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | WHEREAS, Mr. Apodaca also became active in El Paso Young |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | Democrats in the early 2000s, which led to involvement with Texas |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | Young Democrats; after serving as executive vice president for TYD, |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | he was elected president in 2005, becoming the first person from the |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | El Paso area to hold that office; moreover, his accomplishments |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | were recognized with the TYD Delegate Male of the Year award for |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | 2003; and |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | WHEREAS, The El Paso County Democratic Party has benefited |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | from Mr. Apodaca's input as well; he was a precinct chair from 2002 |
|---|
| 27 | 27 | | to 2006 and is currently a member of the State Democratic Executive |
|---|
| 28 | 28 | | Committee and is the chair of its Grassroots Committee; moreover, |
|---|
| 29 | 29 | | this hardworking political activist has worked in behalf of |
|---|
| 30 | 30 | | numerous candidates at the local and state levels; and |
|---|
| 31 | 31 | | WHEREAS, The strength of the American political system |
|---|
| 32 | 32 | | depends on the actions of dedicated volunteers who devote their |
|---|
| 33 | 33 | | time and energy to supporting the ideals and issues they believe in, |
|---|
| 34 | 34 | | and Michael Apodaca has carried forth that tradition through his |
|---|
| 35 | 35 | | advocacy and his thoughtful contributions to the political dialog |
|---|
| 36 | 36 | | of the Lone Star State; now, therefore, be it |
|---|
| 37 | 37 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas |
|---|
| 38 | 38 | | Legislature hereby honor K. Michael Apodaca for his active |
|---|
| 39 | 39 | | participation in civic affairs and extend to him sincere best |
|---|
| 40 | 40 | | wishes for the future; and, be it further |
