| 5 | 5 | | WHEREAS, The members of Delta Xi Nu Multicultural Sorority, |
|---|
| 6 | 6 | | Inc., have distinguished themselves through their community |
|---|
| 7 | 7 | | involvement, academic achievements, and cultural outreach; and |
|---|
| 8 | 8 | | WHEREAS, This noteworthy organization was founded on October |
|---|
| 9 | 9 | | 7, 1997, by five Texas A&M University students who sought to promote |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | cultural awareness and enhance diversity on campus and throughout |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | the surrounding region; since that time, Delta Xi Nu has welcomed |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | women of all backgrounds and committed itself to sisterhood, |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | culture, and education, and it has focused its philanthropic |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | endeavors on the prevention of violence against women; and |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | WHEREAS, The Delta chapter at The University of Texas-Pan |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | American was chartered on April 16, 2005, and has grown to nearly 40 |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | members; active on campus, the group often works with the |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | University Program Board to coordinate cultural showcases, and it |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | regularly participates in celebrations, like those commemorating |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | Dia de los Muertos or Diez y Seis de Septiembre; the Delta chapter |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | was also involved in the UTPA Alumni Association fajita cook-off, |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | and its signature event is Dining with Culture; and |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | WHEREAS, Engaged in the community, the members of the Delta |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | chapter regularly volunteer their time to such organizations as |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | Keep McAllen Beautiful, through which they helped paint houses for |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | low-income families, and the Pharr Community Outreach Project, and |
|---|
| 27 | 27 | | they have also sponsored a self-defense seminar to raise awareness |
|---|
| 28 | 28 | | about domestic violence; moreover, the group earned distinction as |
|---|
| 29 | 29 | | the Greek organization with the highest cumulative GPA, and it |
|---|
| 30 | 30 | | received the Dean's Award for the 2007-2008 school year; and |
|---|
| 31 | 31 | | WHEREAS, Over the course of its development, Delta Xi Nu has |
|---|
| 32 | 32 | | remained dedicated to fostering compassion, understanding, and |
|---|
| 33 | 33 | | diversity, and in so doing, it has made a positive difference in the |
|---|
| 34 | 34 | | UTPA community and beyond; now, therefore, be it |
|---|
| 35 | 35 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas |
|---|
| 36 | 36 | | Legislature hereby honor the Delta chapter of Delta Xi Nu |
|---|
| 37 | 37 | | Multicultural Sorority, Inc., for its efforts in behalf of The |
|---|
| 38 | 38 | | University of Texas-Pan American and the greater community and |
|---|
| 39 | 39 | | extend to its members sincere best wishes for continued success; |
