5 | 5 | | WHEREAS, Family and friends are mourning the loss of Albert |

6 | 6 | | Abraham of Marshall, who died on February 22, 2009, at the age of |

8 | 8 | | WHEREAS, Albert Abraham was born in Marshall on November 19, |
---|
9 | 9 | | 1919, to Louis Charles Abraham and Helena Haddad Abraham; he |
---|
10 | 10 | | graduated from Marshall High School and the College of Marshall, |
---|
11 | 11 | | now East Texas Baptist University; and |
---|
12 | 12 | | WHEREAS, Answering his nation's call to duty during World War |
---|
13 | 13 | | II, Mr. Abraham enlisted in the U.S. Army Air Forces and was trained |
---|
14 | 14 | | as a fighter pilot; after initially patrolling the airspace over |
---|
15 | 15 | | the Panama Canal, he was transferred to the China-Burma-India |
---|
16 | 16 | | theater, where he flew P-51 Mustang fighters in close support of |
---|
17 | 17 | | Allied ground troops, destroying enemy installations from the air; |
---|
18 | 18 | | at one point during the war, this brave American flew 35 combat |
---|
19 | 19 | | missions in 53 days; he was later captured and spent time as a |
---|
20 | 20 | | prisoner of war; and |
---|
21 | 21 | | WHEREAS, Mr. Abraham's courage and sacrifice during the war |
---|
22 | 22 | | were recognized with the Distinguished Flying Cross, the Air Medal |
---|
23 | 23 | | with one Oak Leaf Cluster, the Purple Heart, the American Defense |
---|
24 | 24 | | Service Medal, the Asiatic-Pacific Campaign Medal with two Bronze |
---|
25 | 25 | | Stars, the American Campaign Medal with one Bronze Star, the Unit |
---|
26 | 26 | | Citation Badge, the World War II Victory Medal, the Presidential |
---|
27 | 27 | | Testimonial, and the POW Medal; and |
---|
28 | 28 | | WHEREAS, Discharged after the war with the rank of major, |
---|
29 | 29 | | Albert Abraham returned to Marshall and married Adrah Marie Ryan in |
---|
30 | 30 | | 1946; he owned and operated Abraham Grocery until his retirement in |
---|
31 | 31 | | 1982 and he played an active role in his community as a member of |
---|
32 | 32 | | Masonic Lodge No. 22, the Shriners Club, and the Optimist Club; he |
---|
33 | 33 | | was also a member of the Gideon Society, and he sat on the alumni |
---|
34 | 34 | | board of East Texas Baptist University; and |
---|
35 | 35 | | WHEREAS, Deeply loyal to his fellow service members, Mr. |
---|
36 | 36 | | Abraham held an appointment to the Veterans' Land Board of the |
---|
37 | 37 | | General Land Office, and he earned a certificate of recognition for |
---|
38 | 38 | | his work in behalf of veterans in the Lone Star State; he was a |
---|
39 | 39 | | member of both the American Legion and the Veterans of Foreign Wars; |
---|
40 | 40 | | and |
---|
41 | 41 | | WHEREAS, Albert Abraham dedicated his life to serving his |
---|
42 | 42 | | family, his community, and his nation, and he will forever be |
---|
43 | 43 | | remembered with warm affection by all those who knew and loved him; |
---|
44 | 44 | | now, therefore, be it |

45 | 45 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas |

46 | 46 | | Legislature hereby pay tribute to the life of Albert Abraham and |

47 | 47 | | extend sincere condolences to the members of his family: to his wife |

48 | 48 | | of 62 years, Adrah Abraham; to his daughter, Theresa Crawford; to |

49 | 49 | | his son, Charles Abraham, and his wife, Lisa; to his sister, Joyce |

50 | 50 | | Haddad; to his sister-in-law, Doris Abraham; to his grandchildren, |
