44 R E S O L U T I O N
55 WHEREAS, Family and friends are mourning the loss of Albert
66 Abraham of Marshall, who died on February 22, 2009, at the age of
77 89; and
88 WHEREAS, Albert Abraham was born in Marshall on November 19,
99 1919, to Louis Charles Abraham and Helena Haddad Abraham; he
1010 graduated from Marshall High School and the College of Marshall,
1111 now East Texas Baptist University; and
1212 WHEREAS, Answering his nation's call to duty during World War
1313 II, Mr. Abraham enlisted in the U.S. Army Air Forces and was trained
1414 as a fighter pilot; after initially patrolling the airspace over
1515 the Panama Canal, he was transferred to the China-Burma-India
1616 theater, where he flew P-51 Mustang fighters in close support of
1717 Allied ground troops, destroying enemy installations from the air;
1818 at one point during the war, this brave American flew 35 combat
1919 missions in 53 days; he was later captured and spent time as a
2020 prisoner of war; and
2121 WHEREAS, Mr. Abraham's courage and sacrifice during the war
2222 were recognized with the Distinguished Flying Cross, the Air Medal
2323 with one Oak Leaf Cluster, the Purple Heart, the American Defense
2424 Service Medal, the Asiatic-Pacific Campaign Medal with two Bronze
2525 Stars, the American Campaign Medal with one Bronze Star, the Unit
2626 Citation Badge, the World War II Victory Medal, the Presidential
2727 Testimonial, and the POW Medal; and
2828 WHEREAS, Discharged after the war with the rank of major,
2929 Albert Abraham returned to Marshall and married Adrah Marie Ryan in
3030 1946; he owned and operated Abraham Grocery until his retirement in
3131 1982 and he played an active role in his community as a member of
3232 Masonic Lodge No. 22, the Shriners Club, and the Optimist Club; he
3333 was also a member of the Gideon Society, and he sat on the alumni
3434 board of East Texas Baptist University; and
3535 WHEREAS, Deeply loyal to his fellow service members, Mr.
3636 Abraham held an appointment to the Veterans' Land Board of the
3737 General Land Office, and he earned a certificate of recognition for
3838 his work in behalf of veterans in the Lone Star State; he was a
3939 member of both the American Legion and the Veterans of Foreign Wars;
4040 and
4141 WHEREAS, Albert Abraham dedicated his life to serving his
4242 family, his community, and his nation, and he will forever be
4343 remembered with warm affection by all those who knew and loved him;
4444 now, therefore, be it
4545 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas
4646 Legislature hereby pay tribute to the life of Albert Abraham and
4747 extend sincere condolences to the members of his family: to his wife
4848 of 62 years, Adrah Abraham; to his daughter, Theresa Crawford; to
4949 his son, Charles Abraham, and his wife, Lisa; to his sister, Joyce
5050 Haddad; to his sister-in-law, Doris Abraham; to his grandchildren,
5151 Courtney Crawford, Michael Crawford, Jeffrey Abraham, Justin
5252 Abraham, and Briana Abraham; to his great-grandchildren; and to his
5353 other relatives and friends; and, be it further
5454 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
5555 prepared for his family and that when the Texas House of
5656 Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Albert
5757 Abraham.
