| 5 | 5 | | WHEREAS, Dr. Joseph Garza of San Antonio has distinguished |

| 6 | 6 | | himself through his exceptional work as a specialist in fertility |
|---|
| 7 | 7 | | care, and his accomplishments are indeed deserving of recognition; |

| 8 | 8 | | and |
|---|
| 9 | 9 | | WHEREAS, Based at the Institute for Women's Health, Dr. Garza |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | has established himself as an authority in the areas of infertility |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | and reproductive endocrinology, and his expertise and dedication |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | are widely admired by his colleagues and patients; and |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | WHEREAS, Dr. Garza is a graduate of Austin College and earned |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | his medical degree at The University of Texas Southwestern Medical |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | Center at Dallas in 1977; he went on to complete postdoctoral |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | training at a number of institutions, including Bexar County |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | Hospital, John Sealy Hospital in Galveston, and the Green Center |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | for Reproductive Biology Sciences at UT Southwestern Medical |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | Center, where he received a fellowship to study reproductive |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | endocrinology and infertility; and |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | WHEREAS, A pioneer in his field of medicine, Dr. Garza |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | performed the first GIFT procedure in private practice in San |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | Antonio in 1985, and he serves as a lecturer and instructor in |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | advanced laser and reproductive surgical and microsurgical |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | procedures; he also shares his knowledge through his membership in |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | professional organizations such as the American Association of |
|---|
| 27 | 27 | | Gynecologic Laparoscopists, the Society of Reproductive Surgeons, |
|---|
| 28 | 28 | | and the American Society for Reproductive Medicine; moreover, he is |
|---|
| 29 | 29 | | a diplomate of the American Board of Obstetrics and Gynecology; |
|---|
| 30 | 30 | | now, therefore, be it |

| 31 | 31 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas |

| 32 | 32 | | Legislature hereby honor Dr. Joseph Garza and extend to him sincere |
