55 WHEREAS, Mariela Cervantes has been named valedictorian of
66 the Class of 2009 at Kimball High School in Dallas and for achieving
77 this significant honor, she indeed merits special recognition; and
88 WHEREAS, Earning the title of valedictorian requires not only
99 intellect and aptitude, but four years of dedication to the highest
1010 academic standards; the student who garners this coveted
1111 distinction must demonstrate a thorough understanding of a wide
1212 range of subjects, from math and science to language arts and social
1313 studies, yet the rewards of the countless hours of study and
1414 preparation are myriad; and
1515 WHEREAS, In addition to the pride inherent in being
1616 recognized as the highest achieving student in her class, the
1717 valedictorian is frequently the recipient of scholarships and
1818 grants; she also gains the opportunity to address her fellow
1919 seniors at commencement and to reflect on their shared history as
2020 well as their hopes and ambitions for the future; and
2121 WHEREAS, Throughout her academic career, Mariela Cervantes
2222 has earned the respect and admiration of her teachers and
2323 classmates at Kimball High School, and her exceptional scholastic
2424 ability, hard work, and commitment to excellence have surely opened
2525 the way to limitless opportunities for this remarkable young Texan;
2626 now, therefore, be it
2727 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas
2828 Legislature hereby congratulate Mariela Cervantes on being named
2929 the 2009 valedictorian at Kimball High School and extend to her
3030 sincere best wishes for continued success in all her endeavors.
