 R E S O L U T I O N
 WHEREAS, In an outstanding display of skill and
 determination, the Lady Leopards volleyball team from Lovejoy High
 School in Lucas captured the University Interscholastic League 3A
 state championship on November 22, 2008; and
 WHEREAS, Their title-game victory came after three
 hard-fought sets against the Lady Lions of Brownwood High School
 and brought a triumphant end to a spectacular season in which the
 team notched 40 wins and just 5 losses; Lovejoy's achievement was
 all the more impressive given that there were no seniors on the
 squad; moreover, the school is a relative newcomer to volleyball,
 having competed at the varsity level for just two seasons; and
 WHEREAS, Several Lovejoy players received individual
 accolades for their exceptional play in 2008, with Natalie Puckett
 being named to the all-area team and Andie Malloy, Lauren McDaniel,
 Courtney Ray, Kate Turner, and Tyler Bradsher being selected for
 the 13-3A all-district team; in addition, Ms. Puckett was named the
 district most valuable player while Ms. Turner and Ms. Bradsher
 were named defensive player of the year and setter of the year,
 respectively; and
 WHEREAS, The Lady Leopards also received vital contributions
 from the other members of the team: Becki Kendall, Addason Lamb,
 Whitney Stevens, and Brennan Roehrig; and
 WHEREAS, Head coach Ryan Mitchell provided the squad with
 assured guidance throughout the regular season and the playoffs,
 inspiring his players to realize the dream of a state title; his
 efforts earned him the coach of the year honor from the Dallas
 Morning News; he was ably supported by assistant coaches Kristin
 Moss, Dena Goddard, and Jeff Kear, head athletic trainer Quentin
 Oliphant, and athletic trainer Susan Smiley; and
 WHEREAS, Winning a state championship represents the
 culmination of countless hours of hard work and an unwavering
 commitment to teamwork, and the student athletes of the Lady
 Leopards volleyball team may indeed reflect with pride on a job well
 done; now, therefore, be it
 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas
 Legislature hereby congratulate the Lovejoy Lady Leopards
 volleyball team on winning the UIL 3A state championship for 2008
 and extend to them sincere best wishes for continued success; and,
 be it further
 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
 prepared for the team as an expression of high regard by the Texas
 House of Representatives.
