| 5 | 5 | | WHEREAS, Members of the Tax Assessor-Collectors Association |
|---|
| 6 | 6 | | of Texas are visiting the State Capitol on February 10, 2009, and |
|---|
| 7 | 7 | | this occasion provides a fitting opportunity to pay tribute to this |
|---|
| 8 | 8 | | noteworthy organization; and |
|---|
| 9 | 9 | | WHEREAS, TACA was established in 1934, with the mission to |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | secure the benefits of an organized effort, exchange ideas and |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | discuss mutual problems, and maintain the efficiency of the county |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | tax offices; the group also promotes professional standards among |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | its members and encourages them to become aware of legislative |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | issues and to participate in the process; and |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | WHEREAS, The organization consists of elected tax assessors |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | and sheriffs who perform their duties for the state's 254 counties, |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | as well as a majority of the cities and school districts; these |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | public servants collect billions of dollars in tax revenue for the |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | entities they represent, and as agents for the Texas Department of |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | Transportation, they are responsible for distributing motor |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | vehicle licenses and titles; in addition, many of the tax assessors |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | act as the voter registrar for their respective counties; and |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | WHEREAS, The Tax Assessor-Collectors Association of Texas is |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | a vital group of individuals who are committed to serving their |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | fellow citizens, and it is indeed a pleasure to recognize the |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | organization for its many contributions to the Lone Star State; |
|---|
| 27 | 27 | | now, therefore, be it |
|---|
| 28 | 28 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas |
|---|
| 29 | 29 | | Legislature hereby honor the Tax Assessor-Collectors Association |
|---|
| 30 | 30 | | of Texas for its valuable service to the state and welcome the |
|---|
| 31 | 31 | | visiting delegation to the Capitol; and, be it further |

| 32 | 32 | | RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |

| 33 | 33 | | prepared for TACA as an expression of high regard by the Texas House |
