H.R. No. 346 R E S O L U T I O N WHEREAS, Since 1926, the month of February has been observed as Black History Month, and on February 19, 2009, Northwest Preparatory Academy Charter School in Houston is helping mark this important occasion with a special program, themed "Celebrating Hope Beyond the Dream"; and WHEREAS, The election of the first African American president, Barack Obama, brings special significance to this year's observance of Black History Month and underscores a fundamental tenet of this great nation: that equality, freedom, and justice are rights of all Americans; and WHEREAS, Established in 2001 by Superintendent Stevie Roberts and Deputy Superintendent Erik Singleton, Northwest Preparatory Academy Charter School challenges students to attain academic excellence and to realize their full potential; and WHEREAS, The celebration of Black History Month promotes the immeasurable benefits of a truly diverse society while increasing awareness among our youth of our rich African American cultural heritage, and Northwest Preparatory Academy Charter School's observance will undoubtedly be a memorable occasion for all who attend; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas Legislature hereby commemorate the black history program at Northwest Preparatory Academy Charter School and that all those in attendance be extended sincere best wishes for a rewarding and informative event; and, be it further RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be prepared for the school as an expression of high regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
