H.R. No. 348
R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, The Gamma Sigma Chapter of the Sigma Gamma Rho
Sorority is holding its annual scholarship luncheon on February 28,
2009; and
WHEREAS, First organized in Houston in April 1928, the Gamma
Sigma Chapter has devoted itself to the advancement of scholarship,
community service, and leadership for more than 80 years; and
WHEREAS, Many projects of local benefit are undertaken by the
chapter, including a vocational guidance clinic and participation
in events that raise funds to fight cancer and underwrite other
worthwhile charitable causes; in addition, Gamma Sigma initiatives
such as Project Eye-Saver, Project Reassurance, and Operation Big
Book Bag promote education and provide essential items to
disadvantaged young people; and
WHEREAS, Through their many admirable endeavors, the members
of Sigma Gamma Rho have made lasting and important contributions to
their fellow citizens, and their extensive community involvement is
indeed deserving of admiration and support; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas
Legislature hereby honor the Gamma Sigma Chapter of the Sigma Gamma
Rho Sorority on the occasion of its 2009 scholarship luncheon and
extend to the chapter members sincere best wishes for continued
success; and, be it further
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
prepared for the chapter as an expression of high regard by the
Texas House of Representatives.
