H.R. No. 419
R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, The Permian High School Band of Odessa has been
selected as a recipient of the 2008 Sudler Flag of Honor award from
the John Philip Sousa Foundation; and
WHEREAS, Sponsored by Louis and Virginia Sudler, this
international award is given to high school band programs that have
demonstrated particularly high standards of excellence in concert
activities over a period of several years; and
WHEREAS, Under the astute leadership of director Michael
Watts, the Permian band became one of only four groups in the United
States to earn the award in 2008; and
WHEREAS, These talented and dedicated young Texans have
proven themselves worthy of international attention, and they may
always remember this notable achievement with great pride; now,
therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas
Legislature hereby congratulate Michael Watts and the members of
the Permian High School Band on their receipt of a 2008 Sudler Flag
of Honor from the John Philip Sousa Foundation and extend to them
best wishes for the future; and, be it further
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
prepared for Mr. Watts and the band as an expression of high regard
by the Texas House of Representatives.
