H.R. No. 462
R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, Countless lives were touched by the inspiring faith
and leadership of the Reverend Edward L. Hayes of San Antonio, who
passed away on October 30, 2007, at the age of 59; and
WHEREAS, Born on August 30, 1948, Reverend Hayes grew up in
the Alamo City and earned his bachelor's degree in theology from
Guadalupe Baptist Theological Seminary; his life of religious
service began in 1982 when he was ordained as a minister at Shiloh
Baptist Church; and
WHEREAS, Three years later, Reverend Hayes was called to
pastor St. Frederick Baptist Church in Marble Falls, and during his
notable tenure, he established a mission outreach and an annual
community observance of black history; returning home to San
Antonio in 1994, he joined St. Stephen Baptist Church, where his
teachings uplifted the congregation for more than a decade; and
WHEREAS, This esteemed clergyman further shared his time with
the board of Community of Churches for Social Action of San Antonio
and the Guadalupe District Association; a former chair of San
Antonio's Martin Luther King Day Committee, he also served as
moderator of the San Antonio Baptist Association; and
WHEREAS, Edward Hayes lived a caring and purposeful life, and
though his death has brought great sorrow to his family and his
congregation, he leaves behind a legacy of good works that will long
resonate in the community; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas
Legislature hereby pay tribute to the life of the Reverend Edward L.
Hayes and extend deepest sympathy to his family: to his wife, Rise'
E. Hayes; to his children, Edward and Andrise' Hayes; to his
grandchildren, Shawnell and Julius P. E. Hayes; and to his many
other friends and relatives; and, be it further
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
prepared for his family and that when the Texas House of
Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of the
Reverend Edward L. Hayes.
