5	5	WHEREAS, Marty Wheeler of Roberta Wright Rylander Elementary
6	6	School received the 2007-2008 Diane Hendry Award for Excellence in
7	7	School Nursing from the Katy Independent School District; and
8	8	WHEREAS, The Diane Hendry award was established in the spring
9	9	of 2007 to honor the memory of an outstanding KISD nurse and to
10	10	recognize excellence in nursing practice, clinical expertise,
11	11	community service, volunteerism, and the promotion of health and
12	12	wellness; and
13	13	WHEREAS, Ms. Wheeler began her career with Katy ISD in 1988,
14	14	serving for 16 years as the nurse at Memorial Parkway Elementary
15	15	School, before helping to open Rylander Elementary in 2004; in
16	16	addition to treating medical problems and ensuring immunizations
17	17	are kept current, she has distinguished herself through her efforts
18	18	to promote safety, which include developing playground rules that
19	19	have reduced accidents and devising classroom lessons on such
20	20	topics as CPR and germs; she helps plan for dangerous weather,
21	21	disasters, and other contingencies in her role as chair of the
22	22	school's safety committee, and she is involved in carrying out the
23	23	KISD Safe and Drug-Free Schools and Communities program; and
24	24	WHEREAS, Known as a compassionate child advocate, Ms. Wheeler
25	25	collaborates with parents and teachers to address medical and
26	26	psychological issues, and she works on a team with the school
27	27	counselor to advise students; she has also demonstrated leadership
28	28	in the district's efforts to computerize student health records; a
29	29	mother of three, Ms. Wheeler contributes to the welfare of her
30	30	community as a volunteer for the Red Cross; and
31	31	WHEREAS, This skilled and caring medical professional has
32	32	demonstrated exceptional dedication to the health and safety of
33	33	Rylander Elementary School students, and it is indeed a pleasure to
34	34	recognize her many outstanding accomplishments; now, therefore, be
35	35	it
36	36	RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas
37	37	Legislature hereby congratulate Marty Wheeler on her receipt of the
38	38	Katy Independent School District 2007-2008 Diane Hendry Award for
39	39	Excellence in School Nursing and extend to her sincere best wishes
40	40	for continued success; and, be it further
41	41	RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
42	42	prepared for Ms. Wheeler as an expression of high regard by the
43	43	Texas House of Representatives.
