5	5	WHEREAS, On February 20, 2009, members of the Association of
6	6	Public Administrators at The University of Texas-Pan American are
7	7	furthering their studies of public sector management by attending
8	8	the 10th annual Texas American Society for Public Administration
9	9	and Texas Certified Public Manager Conference in Round Rock; and
10	10	WHEREAS, The APA chapter was established at The University of
11	11	Texas-Pan American in the fall of 2003 to enhance the knowledge and
12	12	administrative skills of graduate students in the UTPA master of
13	13	public administration program, which provides professional
14	14	preparation for public service in governmental agencies at the
15	15	federal, state, regional, and local levels, as well as in
16	16	not-for-profit agencies; in addition, the association serves to
17	17	link MPA students with Rio Grande Valley communities and to raise
18	18	awareness of resources available to communities through the MPA
19	19	program; and
20	20	WHEREAS, Attending the ASPA/CPM conference as a group for the
21	21	first time, APA members will have opportunities for career
22	22	development and networking, and to hear such speakers as State
23	23	Senator Rodney Ellis and former lieutenant governor William P.
24	24	Hobby; past APA activities have included a legislative public
25	25	policy forum with state representatives, and the group also
26	26	sponsored a recent campus visit by former president Bill Clinton;
27	27	and
28	28	WHEREAS, Public service is a high calling, and the members of
29	29	the Association of Public Administrators at The University of
30	30	Texas-Pan American are building a solid foundation from which to
31	31	launch meaningful and productive careers in government; now,
32	32	therefore, be it
33	33	RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas
34	34	Legislature commend the members of the Association of Public
35	35	Administrators at The University of Texas-Pan American for their
36	36	dedication to the field of public administration and extend best
37	37	wishes for a memorable experience at the 2009 Texas ASPA/CPM
38	38	Conference; and, be it further
39	39	RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
40	40	prepared for the association as an expression of high regard by the
41	41	Texas House of Representatives.
