5	5	WHEREAS, The family and friends of Sergeant Charles Bernard
6	6	Kitowski III suffered an unspeakable loss with the passing of this
7	7	brave soldier in Afghanistan on August 12, 2007, at the age of 31;
8	8	and
9	9	WHEREAS, Assigned to the 345th Psychological Operations
10	10	Company, 2nd Psychological Operations Group, U.S. Army Civil
11	11	Affairs and Psychological Operations Command, Sergeant Kitowski
12	12	was based at Fort Bragg, North Carolina; he had served in
13	13	Afghanistan for about a year when he was mortally wounded in
14	14	Nangarhar Province; and
15	15	WHEREAS, Born in Gulfport, Mississippi, on August 10, 1976,
16	16	"Trey" Kitowski grew up in Katy and graduated from St. Thomas High
17	17	School in Houston in 1994; he earned a degree in management
18	18	information systems from the University of St. Thomas in 1998 and
19	19	went on to work in the finance department of Southwest Airlines in
20	20	Dallas; and
21	21	WHEREAS, In 2005, with American troops engaged in a difficult
22	22	struggle overseas, Charles Kitowski joined the United States Army,
23	23	knowing that he would probably soon see action in the Middle East;
24	24	his willing determination to shoulder a burden he could have easily
25	25	avoided spoke volumes about his character, his sense of duty, and
26	26	his patriotism; to all who knew him well, his decision was
27	27	consistent with his whole-hearted readiness to give of himself in
28	28	behalf of others; and
29	29	WHEREAS, Known for his ever-present smile and fun-loving,
30	30	generous nature, Sergeant Kitowski brought laughter and joy into
31	31	the lives of his family and many friends; and
32	32	WHEREAS, In recognition of his courageous service and
33	33	immeasurable sacrifice, Sergeant Kitowski was awarded the Bronze
34	34	Star, the Purple Heart, and the Meritorious Service Medal; his
35	35	decorations also included the Combat Action Badge, the Global War
36	36	on Terror Medal, and the Afghanistan Campaign Medal; and
37	37	WHEREAS, A man who gave his best effort in everything he
38	38	undertook, Sergeant Kitowski performed his mission in Afghanistan
39	39	with exemplary dedication and professionalism; his unwavering
40	40	integrity and devotion to this country reflected the highest ideals
41	41	of the United States armed forces, and his fellow citizens owe him a
42	42	debt of gratitude that the passage of time can never diminish; now,
43	43	therefore, be it
44	44	RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas
45	45	Legislature hereby pay tribute to the life of Sergeant Charles
46	46	Bernard Kitowski III and extend deepest sympathy to the members of
47	47	his family: to his parents, Theresa and Chuck Kitowski; to his
48	48	grandparents, Zenia and Charlie Kitowski; to the love of his life,
49	49	Berri Gentry; and to his other relatives and many friends; and, be
50	50	it further
51	51	RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
52	52	prepared for his family and that when the Texas House of
53	53	Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Sergeant
54	54	Charles Bernard Kitowski III.
