5	5	WHEREAS, The 80th birthday of an esteemed Texan is indeed
6	6	cause for celebration, and Joel Davis Sugg, Jr., of Katy is marking
7	7	that special milestone in his life on March 3, 2009; and
8	8	WHEREAS, Born in Wellington in 1929 to Mary Bess Satterwhite
9	9	Sugg and Joel Davis Sugg, Sr., Mr. Sugg is the grandson of Robert
10	10	Lee Satterwhite, who served seven terms in the Texas House of
11	11	Representatives, including one session as speaker; and
12	12	WHEREAS, After graduating from Rice University in 1950, Mr.
13	13	Sugg received his commission as a second lieutenant in the U.S.
14	14	Marine Corps; he served in the Korean War as an artillery officer,
15	15	then returned to Texas to train as a Marine aviator; and
16	16	WHEREAS, While in flight school in Corpus Christi, Mr. Sugg
17	17	met the love of his life, the former Stasia Olstowski, and they were
18	18	married in 1954 at El Toro Marine Corps Air Station in California;
19	19	and
20	20	WHEREAS, Mr. Sugg remained on active duty with the Marines
21	21	until 1955, and then continued to serve in the Marine Corps Reserve
22	22	until 1962, when he retired at the rank of major; during the course
23	23	of his military career, he received the Distinguished Flying Cross,
24	24	eight Air Medals, a Presidential Unit Citation, the Korean Service
25	25	Medal, and the National Defense Service Medal; and
26	26	WHEREAS, In 1970 Mr. Sugg founded the faith-based Country
27	27	School in Katy, which he continued to run for 20 years; he also
28	28	founded a small business, Schoolmaster Family Enterprises, to
29	29	support the school's activities; and
30	30	WHEREAS, Throughout his life, Mr. Sugg has been a devoted
31	31	husband to his wife of nearly 55 years and a mentor and inspiration
32	32	to his seven children, nine grandchildren, and three
33	33	great-grandchildren, and it is indeed a pleasure to commend him on
34	34	this special occasion; now, therefore, be it
35	35	RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas
36	36	Legislature hereby congratulate Joel Davis Sugg, Jr., on his 80th
37	37	birthday and extend to him sincere best wishes for continued
38	38	happiness; and, be it further
39	39	RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
40	40	prepared for Mr. Sugg as an expression of high regard by the Texas
41	41	House of Representatives.
